Since the majority of people that frequent this forum are in their teens (i just turned 19) and I was wondering how many of you listen to older music. By older music I'm talking 80's-50's and not just the popular stuff like the beatles, rolling stones, zeppelin, pink floyd, ac/dc, and 80s pop. I'm talking about jazz from the late 50's early 60's like coltrane and miles davis. Or bands like steely dan and tower of power (which I'm sure a lot of ppl dont like of have never heard of).
Personally, I think a lot of new music that comes out is just bad, not just in terms of sound but musicianship. Nowadays anyone who graduates from the 5th grade and can babble incomplete sentences that rhyme can be famous. If you look at a lot of new artist, there are fewer and fewer who can actually play an instrument or sing without having their voices electronically altered to hell. I primarily listen to music that was recorded pre 1990s not because I'm against new music but because i actually consider it music and the artists musicans. There are exceptions, but generally speaking, i consider this the case. Am I out od step with my generation? Or is my generation out of step?
I know ppl are going to go on rants concerning my second query. But to those who respond, make sure not to forget the first part of the post. I'm really curious.
