It is a shame that some bands only have one hit. For some reason a lot of these bands have one hit in America yet have much more hits in Europe.

1. Chumbawamba- Their one hit song tubthumping wasn't even one of their good songs. They have been around for more than 20 years and they still put out albums today. I think they are a pretty good band.

2. Wall of voodoo

3. A-Ha- They still make albums. Take on me is a good song but they have other good albums like Lifelines.

4. XTC- Their song Dear God has a short run in America but they are one of the best pop bands that never got much recognition in America.

5. Blur- They are huge in Europe but for some reason only Song 2 became big in America.

6. The Breeders

7. Mazzy Star- Not sure if they count

8. Veruca Salt

9. Elastica

10. Blind Melon

11. James

I was thinking Blind Melon. Blur were decent. Are Gorillaz big in the US?

Was gonna say Blind Melon off the top of my head, too bad Shannon Hoon died after only their second album, wasn't a huge fan but I could've seen them having a dedicated following throughout the years if they had kept recording. Also Modern English (At least on the US charts) pretty much known only for their "I melt iwth you" song

I cant think of any one hit wonders in the UK that should of been bigger ... Usually why they dont get other hits over here is because there next single is garbage.

Blur had some great songs. Their albums 13, and Think Tank especially. Gorillaz are pretty big in America but I personally think Blur were a better band.

I sort of agree on Wall of Voodoo. Not great by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like their style, and the singer's quirky voice.

Yeah they stood out more than most bands in the 80's.

Benny Mardones, made famous for his easy listening "Into the Night", but he has some pretty awesome rock songs as well.

Blur is by no means a "one hit wonder". I'm American and they are one of my favorite bands thanks to the Internet.

I definitely agree with Blind Melon. And, no kidding, I think Rick Astley had more in him :P. Guster only had one hit but a lot of great songs. They're really good if you like their genre (whatever that is, LOL).

Blech, I find Blur to be pretty awful. Keep hearing people rave about them yet Song 2 is still the only song I can tolerate by them.....

Anyways, Alien Ant Farm deserved much more credit I think. At the very least, their debut album was phenominal and deserves wayyy more recognition beyond Smooth Criminal.

Edit:

I forgot a band that perfectly fits this topic for me.

Alot of people might know the song "Wait" by Earshot, but most know nothing else. This is a band that has infact put out 3 very good albums. They are actually one of the most consistently good bands I know of AND their sound is very radio friendly so I am surprised they never made it big.

I'm playing Take On Me (the ska version) in our schools talent show tommorow :3 Other then that, I'd have to say Blur. It's really sad that Damon Alburn's pretend cartoon band has charted more singles in the US then Blur ever did.

Actually, that's a really good choice. They're putting out a lot of good stuff now, and other musicians (like Chris Cornell, for instance) are big fans of their later work.

Procol Harum. They had one massively successful single, and then that was pretty much it. They have better songs than that particular one as well, and they have done some really awesome albums.

Toadies. Their newest album is frickin' awesome, and still the only song you ever hear is Possum Kingdom, over and over again.
