Yeah, rip-offs! Okay, I paid 20 good dollars, plus tax, for Babel today and when I open it, of course there's no insert. I miss the days when DVDs came with inserts. Anyway, I put it in, click on the special features button and all they have to offer to me is the stupid theatrical trailer! Really!?! Is that all? $20 to see a preview of a movie I JUST bought!!!!!! It had me thinking, most new DVDs do the same exact thing! Some come with NO special features at all! This thing gets me mad!

Another thing that gets me mad is when asking for 2 discs is apparently TOO much for the company to handle! Too much for them, so they decide that the DVD buyer has to pay EXTRA for that 2nd disc that doesn't even contain THAT much! It happened with me and The Departed! I paid $10+tax extra for that 2nd disc (which I wanted because NO special features came with the 1-disc one) and it came with like a little over an hour of special features! It got me furious! DVDs today are such a rip-off! Why can't DVDs be like the old days! When 2-discs was the ONLY edition out there for a decent price!

I watched that earlier tonight. It wasn't that good a movie. I saw it in theaters and only got it again because we get movies from our library and my parents wanted to see it. If you want to watch a good movie, watch The US vs John Lennon. I am watching it again now and it is a good movie.

Imo, Special features are worth researching first. Some are good. Some are terrible. You have to weed the terrible ones out by reading people's reviews of the dvds online OR subscribing to DVD Review magazine.

They usually do that so that they can double-dip the comsumer 6 mths to a year down the line. If the Departed wins at the Oscars, there will almost be "platinum five-star difinitive collectors edition box set" that will capitalize on it, meanwhile they'll just throw in a commentary track and an updated featurette.

I bought these 2 DVD's from a gangster looking guy on the edge of the street once, just for fun I knew they'd suck (I was in NYC , btw), and he (or some friend of his) went into the theatre, taped the movie, and burned it on a DVD. Then they sold it on the streets. I laughed my ass off so hard looking at it, I heard people coughing every 5 seconds and this guy stood up in front of him..

Some day will be able to buy movies online (iMovies or something like that), and DVD, HD DVD and Blu Ray will go extint. In the mean time I'll continue to use my Betamax :P
