my laptop is in standby mode probably 95% of the time and i shut it down when i'm going some where for a long period of time
I generally shut my laptop off at night (to get rid of the annoying green lights) or when it is not being used and is away from a power supply.
This is what I do as well.my laptop is in standby mode probably 95% of the time and i shut it down when i'm going some where for a long period of time

Curious how much money can you save per month from having it shut off lets say 12 hours a day then having it on? Anyone know an estimatebluetadomonkA computer pulls about 250 watts on average, so 3kw/h a day, 90 a month. Electricity really varies in price, though. Here it's about 7 cents a kW/h, so you'd save about six bucks a month by leaving it off. Might be closer to $12 in some US locations, though.

Thanks thats a lot less then i was expecting but then again i know little to nothing on the subject, i appreciate it :). I'll continue to leave the computer on for the most part well into living by myself haha

Hmm...I applaud you for knowing this, unless you're just making it up. Palantas will use his $12 to buy a martini.
That would be a restart, Windows Update says not to shut it down.I put my computer to sleep all the time, I only ever really shut it down when it says it needs to do that for updates.

My Dell laptop somehow magically cracked like hell for some reason on the hinges so when I close it the right side hinge cracks open wide and even the frame for the screen pops out. The motherboard also has a problem because it won't recognize my charger so it doesn't charge but it will stay on if it's plugged in. Finally it has a problem with the power switch I think from it being cracked as I tried force closing it I messed up a wire but for some reason shaking and semi closing/opening it will eventually turn it on but it's risky. So to recap I can't close it, can't turn it off, can't unplug it, so I just put it into sleep mode when I'm not using it forever until the battery eventually dies.
TLDR: I leave it on 24/7.

Whatever it is when there's a bronze shield by my shutdown button.
I leave my laptop on a lot, often when its not plugged in and it just goes to sleep mode.
It rains a lot where I am so with my PC I often unplug it before, but its still usually in sleep mode as well.
Why the hell would someone waist electricity like that???
Atleast Hibernate, that doesn't consume any electricity last time I checked.
i do a lot of video conversions so i tend to leave my laptop on for long periods of time, my desktop i never leave on over night, it has a clear side to it with lighting that can make it a little hard to sleep at night :P
