Macs are overpriced, I would advise a flat "no".

As a MacBook Pro owner (for 3 years), yes. Be prepared for a flood of "NO," though. OT is not fond of Macs. Most of them have no idea what they're talking about, though, so you'll want to weed them out...

Without any bias--since I've always owned a PC--I bought a MacBook Pro over the summer for school. Great laptop, worth every penny. So yeah, go for it.

You get what you pay for...

You dish out 1300 for a macbook you're going to get a damn fine machine. But it's 1300 bucks. paying 1300 bucks to do homework and browse the internet? Send me the money and anytime you have a question text me.

It's best to either borrow one or try out the ones in store displays. Only you can answer whether you need it or not. Me? I like diversity so I have both PC (gaming and general purpose) and Mac (internet and backup computer).

If all you're going to be doing is homework and internet browsing, get a cheap windows pc. The only reason to get a Mac is if you plan to do a lot of Video/Music/Photo editing. And plenty of pc manufacturers stand behind their products very well (just don't get a big name pc lik HP or Dell etc.)

With a Mac, that's pretty accurate, 1300 for a mac is pricey but it's going to be a damn good machine that will run really well and give you almost zero problems depending on what you're using it for... but it's 1300 bucks:P

$1300 for a 13" laptop? For less than half of that you could buy a better spec'd laptop.

It's a tad steep for what you get, sure, but I feel it's worth it. I used PCs for longer than I've used my Mac, and I see nothing wrong with shelling out a few hundred more for the level of "polish" you get with a Mac. It's hard to describe, and some people may describe it as a "lack of user control," or something like that, but it's such a clean interface, especially for the level you'd be using it at.

Edit: And as Russ said above me, it will NEVER give you a software problem. In 3 years, I've encountered only one hardware problem, when the display wouldn't turn on, but that turned out to be an issue with nVidia's particular card, and not the MacBook itself.

That could be in due part that this is a gaming website and hence many of us here are PC gamers -- but it's easy to tell it as it is, no matter how solid it may be. A user is flat out paying a lot of money for a machine that simply isn't very powerful. He's getting a macbook Pro for $1,300. It'll end up using a Core 2 Duo, and feature a rather weak GPU. I can list a 1K laptop that has a Core i7, and a relatively powerful GPU for a notebook.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was confused by the topic title. I'd imagine that if all of OT chipped in, a Macbook would be rather cheap. The problem is, I'm not sure if many people would want to share. As far as whether it is worth it, I have no idea since I do not know enough about Macs.

I know several people who have them and swear by them. They are just so simple, fast, and reliable. I also own several Apple products and have been very satisfied with them and have never had a problem with them. You should watch some video reviews of the MacBook Pro on YouTube. I have a friend who has always been an Apple hater, but when he saw what they could do he decided to get one.

honestly my SonyVAIO(notebook) can do just about anything that amacbook can do and it only cost me $400 ($650 normal price though). Also Window's 7 and the userinterface macbooks have are nearly one and the same.I suggest you look at the specs of the macbookwhich includeshow much RAM it has, what kind of procesor it has, how big it's hardrive is, etc and see if you can get the same or better specs for a better price. If you can't get the macbook.

to me spendng 1300 on a computer that isnt like an i7/X58 based, 2-3 crossfire/SLi gaming machine isnt worth it. even if it s a mac 1300 for a laptop is a bit rediculous. consider how much abuseits bound to take and that your not doing very demanding tasks you should just buy a cheap laptop. im sure you will have a use for the money youll be saving.

99% of the time you pay the extra money for a mac it will serve you well with almost no problems until the day it decides to die. When that day comes it is literally the end of days.

Pay more for a mac, less headaches

Pay less for a PC more headaches but far less money

end of story, unless you;re talking gaming then it;s a whole different story

But that's still an uninformed opinion. It's not really worth consideration unless you've used both a PC and a Mac. And that's what I was talking about. Most people don't know what they're talking about because they've only used a PC, and their only interaction with a Mac was limited to a few hours or days. And by the way, I was using a general "you" in that. I wasn't attacking you.

it's not like there aren't laptops out there that have the capability of upgrading its graphics chip. It's just that they are few and far between. I happen to be one of those guys that doesn't really care about existing technology until I have it on my fingertips. For instance I didn't care about putting videos on an ipod until I got one that was capable of it. I didn't care about having a machine that could play games on it (I have a wii for that) until I got my own laptop and all of a sudden I wanted to upgrade my graphics chip.

As a MacBook Pro owner (for 3 years), yes. Be prepared for a flood of "NO," though. OT is not fond of Macs. Most of them have no idea what they're talking about, though, so you'll want to weed them out...Dark__Link

We know what we're talking about. I got my Gateway P7811FX two years ago for $1250 and I assure you it kicks every MacBook Pro's ass as far as hardware is concerned. You can get even better gaming laptops these days for $800-1100 as well. All you get with Apple is an overpriced, underpowered machine. Now maybe OP doesn't want a gaming notebook (although if he's willing to blow $1300 on a laptop he most certainly can get a nice one) which is fine. In that case he can pick up a more mainstream PC notebook for half the price of that MacBook and it will still run just as well, if not better (and as a plus he'll have a lot more software to choose from).

[QUOTE="Dark__Link"]As a MacBook Pro owner (for 3 years), yes. Be prepared for a flood of "NO," though. OT is not fond of Macs. Most of them have no idea what they're talking about, though, so you'll want to weed them out...gameguy6700

We know what we're talking about. I got my Gateway P7811FX two years ago for $1250 and I assure you it kicks every MacBook Pro's ass as far as hardware is concerned. Have you ever used a Mac before?

true there is really no denying that you can get a cheaper laptop that will do the same things when discussing Macs.

Not worth it at all, especially when you can get a machine that can do the same things but cheaper and faster for less than 800$

Yes, my university has a fetish for them so I've had to become pretty familiar with Macs. All using them for the past few years has done for me is make me hate them even more.

I really don't see any argument whatsoever for buying a MacBook. When it comes to computers all that really matters is the hardware. Even if you think the Mac OSX is just the end all, be all of OS's, OP can still just go out, buy the damn Mac OSX, and install it on a PC notebook. Then he gets the Mac OSX along with the hardware of a PC and for half the price it would have cost to buy some crappy MacBook. Granted that's like taking a liger on steroids and putting it in a cage so small that it can't move, but if for some reason he really wanted to do that then that's the way to go. The only thing that will be missing is the pretty shiny white case with the glowing apple logo that defines a MacBook, but I really don't think that's worth an extra $500.
