OT is going slow so: Is it racist if someone is not attracted to a certain race?

There was a race thread couple of weeks ago discussing the race to which you're most attracted to. The conversation quickly turned to: racist if you're not attracted to a race.

So I ask OT:

Is it racist if someone is not attracted to a certain race?

Depending on how one defines the term "racist", the answer could be either yes or no.

No it's more like preferance. I would date a black girl but I'd never be able to take her home to my family because they are racist. Therefore I do not date outside my race. Sad but true.

Saying "I'm not attracted to purple people" can be rephrased to "when it comes to attractiveness, I think purple genes are inferior". Therefore, yes, anyone who gives a blanket "I'm not attracted to purple people" is guilty of racism.

It would be racist to say "all (insert race/ethnicity of your choice here) are unattractive", however.

No I don't think it is. I personally like ALL types of women from every race, even ones that come in different sizes ;) Hell my last GF was 43 and I was only 19. Didn't bother me one bit, that's how you learn...

I define racism as the belief that the quality of individual capabilities and behaviors are at least partially influenced by race. So no, I don't think which races you are attracted to can be defined as racism per se, anymore than I would think being exclusively heterosexual or homosexual would make one definitely a sexist.

Having said that, there are individuals I've known who are both unattracted to a race or gender, and also are racist towards that race or sexist towards that gender, respectively. It's never clear to me if the former is caused by the latter or the other way around. So it does depend on the root cause of the lack of attraction. If it isn't motivated by racism or sexism, and I honestly believe it usually isn't, then it can never be classified that way as a default.

Since every race have beautiful women how can you not be attracted to that race?? I mean there is no ugly race. If you aren't attracted to black girls then that's solely cause of her color. How is that not racism if she's beautiful with nice bewbs?Cow4ever

Because beauty is subjective and can be largly influenced by cultural (and some biological) factors. Overall though it is ultimately down to personal taste, like my favorite color is black but yours could be red or blue or whatever. Neither of us is "wrong" so to speak. Or how you like women with large breasts (I do to) but I also like small breasts aswell, call me crazy but I don't really seem to have a prefrence with (most) women. I don't know why I just like them all lol...

It's not racist at all to have a prefrence in terms of beauty, not everyone likes the same thing.
