basically i will make a long story short,

today i noticed my 12 bank withdrwal transactions from my account where i keep all of my savings. the 12 total transactions is for a tad over 2,000 dollars. my brother used my social security number, stole my permit(was laying in my room i had my lisence for 5 years) forged my signature and made these withdrawls.

i went to the police and filed a report so i could get my money back, and basically i had a choice of two things

press charges of 7 felony counts and get my money back

or dont press charges and not get my money back

i choose to not press charges to not put stress on my family, and i decided i would take this as learning expreience

i choose not to press charges because it would take a long time to procicute him and to get my money back, but mostly i did it for my family, i had a recent death about a week ago and the added stress would be enourmous....

not to mention its hard to put your own brother in prision for 5-15 years on 7 felony charges...easier said than done

im just so sad, i cant belive my own brother would do this, makes me sick and sad at the same time OT

That's pretty terrible. However, TC, I have a question: What are you going to do now? Confront your brother? You will have issues to deal with him, pressing charges or not.

You dont press charges, but still make him pay it. Dont do it through courts, just have him pay you back. I mean you kinda saved his ass by not having him charged

Wait, why not press charges? I know he's your brother and all, but this should be a learning experience for him that its wrong to exploit the carelessness of others in such a horrific manner.

Regardless, that's sad to hear.

Wow, that is just horrible. But you are the better man for not pressing charges. I'm not sure what I would do in your shoes. I think if I didn't press charges, I'd at least kick the crap out of my brother so he'd learn not to do it again.

Well out of those two options you chose the wrong thing. Pressing charges not only would have helped you get your money back but also help your brother get his life on track. Prison is for people like him.

And, you will blackmail him and get more money off of him than he got from you. on a more serious note, did you even talk to your brother about this? If my brother did it, I would just file a report.

If this is true you should press charges.

Is your family going to give you your money back? I don't think so. Are they going to shun him for being wrong now? I don;t think so. So why should they shun you for being in the right and doing the right thing?

Odds are if it wasn't your brother your family would be shouting "Prosecute! Prosecute!"

Soooooo...you're just going to let your brother steal 2000 BUCKS from you?

He's your brother and all, but you shouldn't be letting anyone just simply take that kind of money from you. be assertive! Show some backbone! Press charges for crying out loud!

your brother stole 2 grand from you, that must be a stress on YOU, does it not? if your family won't support you getting back the money YOU earned, and YOU saved that HE stole, there's something wrong with all of them.

Did he need it for anything, or did he just feel like getting an easy 2K?

I would ask him to pay you back, and if he doesn't, that's when you press charges. If he simply stole from you with no remorse, he needs to be put in jail

With all due respect and assuming this story is true, is your brother an addict? I ask because I've known people struggling with addiction that exhibited this behavior.
