OTcars Pre-Thread

So it's that time again guys for the OTcars.

This thread will serve as the pre-planning thread to get ready for the actual setting up of the stuff.

Goals:

1. Find a host

2. Preliminary category ideas

3. Trim the fat

4. Fun

So the first order of business is to just spitball names for who will be hosting.

After that is done, or maybe during, discuss what categories will be part of this years event. Cut down on stuff that feels redundant, add stuff, etc.

So first things first, who would you like to see host?

What is OTcars?

@deeliman: Random categories are chosen and people vote on OT users who best fit those categories. Like "most intelligent" user.

the whole thing is a sham anyway, but it's entertaining.

Dave you should host definitely. You cared enough to remember the OTcars and make a topic about it and you've been here long enough to know the ins and outs of the whole thing too. And you'd make a hospitable host too :3

@deeliman: have decided on thegerg. He has some support and also stepped up to the task.

@thegerg: at this point I think we need to come up with the list of awards that will be part of this years event. Use a previous years award list as a starting point and add and trim stuff. Talk it over with everyone else in this thread. You have final say, but try to incorporate as much input from the community as possible(within reason, you don't want to just add every single idea a person has)

Maybe you can post a list from the previous year in this thread?

Above is the list from one of the years.

For those new to OTcars basically there are two main voting periods. The first one is write in votes for nominees of the various awards. After that ends the votes are tallied. Depending on the numbers, there are cutoffs on who makes it into the 2nd and final voting round. From there we all vote from the list of nominees for the awards.

So basically let's say that in the first voting round for a given award there are a few people that have 3+ votes and several who have less then 3. The 3+ people will be in the final round. If a given award doesn't really have any 3+ people then it may be 2+ who make it into the final round or just everyone depending on the numbers.

The cutoffs are up to the host for the most part

this is the thing that will bring OT back to life. watch.

I'm wondering if it's even worth pursuing this year, with OT taking a huge hit and all. But then again, maybe this COULD be the surge that is needed here, like 4myAmuzumament said.

Is OT active enough for this to really be warranted or work? We didn't have many votes last year.

this one will be the best. since there are only a few of us left everyone will win something. i bet even I could win a title or two.

@thegerg: yeah, for the most part the list is going to be unchanged. Just that some people have said they felt some stuff may have been too redundent or irrelevant. Mostly get rid of the fat if there is anything that seems redundent or no longer relevant to the interest of OT. Maybe people here can suggest some new stuff or stuff to toss out. Thinking that by Thursday you should make the nomination thread and have that close Jan 13th or so. So guess from here on you are in charge of getting the stuff organized and done, setting up the dates of when everything will happen or whatever.

Should get some volunteers for the tallying.

What about daily live challenges like: user with the best kicks (post a pic of your shoes in the future OT discussion topic and people viewing the topic can vote more casually)?
