Sad as hell, still early but most of the troops are said to be Navy seals, numbers aren't clear yet i've seen some saying as high as 31 US troops and 7 Afghan commandos, hopefully it's not that high though.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/08/06/afghanistan.nato.helicopter.crash/index.html

Update: 22 Navy Seals died all part of the same unit that took down Osama, aswell as 9 more US special forces and 7 Afghan commandos, US officials are now saying it was the Taliban that was responisble for taking down the chopper.

Curious to see if it was the Taliban that brought it down or if it was mechanical failure.

Taliban have claimed responsiblity but they always do.

Saw it on yahoo a few hours ago. Don't know if it's a bad thing or a good thing, probably both. Bad that young people died, good that more people will change their minds about this pointless war after hearing about this, some might even start opposing it.

For 31 US troops to die? Let alone Navy Seals, no it's not normal, worst day for US troops in the 10 year war.

In past wars, death tolls like that would pale in comparison to the norm. During WW2 hundreds may have died in a single day from fighting. Today, you average about a small handful dying every day (if anybody at all) and 31 dying in the same day is a huge amount. If I'm not mistaken the most that died in a single day during the current conflicts was 37 when a helicopter went down in Iraq in 2005 killing 31 and six more died in insurgent attacks (I remember that one because I read it on the newspaper while I was still in Kuwait getting ready to go into Iraq in a few days).

People are going to look at the number and be like "oh so many our hearts go out to them" but at the same time when 1 dies it's glossed right over

It's the insane way this whole "war" has been covered, it goes on so long and no one cares unless we reach some new milestones.

The whole thing is disgusting the way it's covered in the media

The fact that so many of them are Navy seals makes it not normal.

But yes you are right, the media stopped reporting alot of deaths from Iraq and Afghanastain. I know up here in Canada every time a Canadian troop died it would be one of the top stories, however we only loss 157 troops in the 10 year long war compared to the thousands of US troops lost. So the media most likely could just not keep up/people stopped caring as much in the US as they got use to it.

The unfortunate part is that the war in Afghan isn't as pointless as people make it out to be, and we will be there for a while.

Update: 22 Navy seals died, all part of the same unit that took down Osama Bin Laden. US officals are now saying that the Taliban is responsible for downing the chopper.

Kind of seems dumb to have so many elite Navy seals on one chopper like that, but I suppose they do have air superiorty in Afghanastain and choppers rarely get shot down so it was unexpected.

Most of the victims were from Seal Team 6---the same unit that was (allegedly) responsible for assassinating Osama bin Laden.

Wake up!

They knew the truth about Osama's supposed assassination (i.e. that it was all just a charade) and therefore jeopardized the ongoing conspiracy to conceal the awful truth about 9/11.

They had to be silenced----by their own government!

People die in war so it's not much of a shock and they knew there was a chance of dying when they signed up. But its still sad that their lives got cut short.
