I cannot understand how someone can be so full of himself. I'm not going call out names. But this person I know is under the illusion that he can achieve any goal in life. He supposedly can get ten times more women then Antonio Banderas himself, lol despite him having the look of a geek. He can win a fight with Mike Tyson, even though his body is build like a annorexic girl.

What are your views on over confidence? Good or bad thing?

I figured the same thing. But I'm not too sure. I'm not a psychiatrist, but I'd like to get an answer if perhaps anyone has a clue.

Confidence is good... over confidence is not -- and it usually is not over confidence but a superiority complex -- which NOT surprisingly is caused by insecurity.

An unconditional positive regard for oneself aids progress. But your ego is the last thing you should be feeding, let others do that for you.

It can be a good thing in moderation but I usually feel bad for people like who you just gave an example of. I find they're often the kids who are looked down on in the first place.

The thing is, I know people who look very attractive, and yet ironicly enough they suffer from inferiority complex. Thats pretty sad.

''The term "superiority complex", in everyday usage, refers to an overly high opinion of oneself; in psychology, it refers to the same sort of attitude. However in psychology, it is considered that the attitude is actually a way of hiding (or compensating for) feelings of inferiority.''

''Behaviors related to this mechanism may include an exaggeratedly positive opinion of one's worth and abilities, unrealistically high expectations in goals and achievements for oneself''

Your theory has essence of truth in it it seems. And well, it fits to the pattern.

Not anyone from GS :)

To be honest, the person isn't really in touch with reality as far as I'm aware. I think confidence is good, but not to the extent he bears it. He is under the impression that he wouldn't be nervous at all to talk with a celebrity. Perform a comedy show in front of an audience of thousands. Achieving to play Bach easily. And whatever else activity you can think of, where a normal sane person would look things more from realistic perspective.

Is this sign of him being delusional?

overconfidence isn't bad, as long as you're not arrogant.

You're not overconfident if you really are capable of doing all the things you think you can do.

Come to think of it. It may be a result of his puberty process.

He hasn't really experienced the outside world very well. But life has a little habit of "kicking you in the ass to remind you of your place in the world.''

The word overconfidence has a negative connotation. It is always bad.
