Yeah... thing looks like a giant rat.The outcome may have been slightly different had the cat not been hairless.

They basically killed the person's cat, and they're only offering her a cargo reimbursement?
For ****'s sake, Delta.
I know right..I mean..it's a cat.....thing isn't worth more than a dollar fifty.....Delta is just throwing money away....well, seeing as it's delta I am not suprised. This is the same company that stole my buddies DS in it's case while they were "inspecting it"
I don't really see it as a humane way to transport a pet, though... I'd think anyone who really loves their pet would make the trip by car, or have someone take care of it for however long... I feel a lot worse for the cat than the owner. They basically killed the person's cat, and they're only offering her a cargo reimbursement?

While I agree that it's not a very humane way to transport a pet, the fact that Delta killed her cat and is treating it like a simple case of lost luggage is extraordinarily callous.

I object!!!

Oh I agree. They offer the service so they need to ensure that this can't happen. I just meant I don't feel as bad for the owner as I normally would.I feel bad for the cat, but is such compensation really. . .warranted by the situation? It's a cat, not a baby.TheokhothI hear they offer double for dead babies.
[QUOTE="Dark__Link"][QUOTE="rcafan"] http://www.bringfido.com/travel/us_regulations/ yes they should know... and if this was teh case they cleary could of save the cat. its there repsonbiltiy to know if they got animals on teh plane rcafan"It," not "they." As in, "it didn't forget to cross my mind." Not, "they didn't know it was on the plane." I'm pretty sure your only issues with me stem from your ability to read what I'm writing. :| i just give you a link of what they got to follow the rules, yet they didn't know is the excuse? how do you not know you are the person give advance notice of animal flying. first off second off they got to make sure the animal is safe. they faild as they should of said they couldn't fly it in fear of teh weather. Okay, I'm just gonna stop trying, since you're either a troll, or English is not your first language.

Well, just for the sake of argument, how much is that cat actually worth?

From the sounds of the article they made a very reasonable offer that actually acknowledged that they were directly responsible for the death of a living being, then took it back and decided to just explicitly treat the dead cat as lost luggage. It's not even just the amount of reimbursement that's the issue here; there's also the fact that they're justifying it by saying that that's a standard cargo reimbursement, which basically openly says "we think of your cat as an inanimate object".

That doesn't really answer the question though.
See...you can QUANTIFY the loss by treating the cat as cargo. By treating the cat as cargo, you can then say "those cats sell for about X dollars, so here's x dollars for you to buy another cat." But once they start handing out money for stuff like emotional pain, exactly how much money are they supposed to pay? How much is that fsmily's sadness actually worth?
What was their initial offer? $2900, something like that? Well, who says that's reasonable? Who's to say that the cat's emotional value wasn't worth less than that, or way more than that? How do you actually come to the determination that $2900 is a "reasonable" offer?
