saw it, apparently it is amazing, its good but im not picking up on the "deepness" i though it would have. But i dont know if del torro makes deep movies. can anybody explain the symbolism in the movie? were the monsters real? and i didnt really follow the clock thing

also: that movie is not a childrens movie. definetely not a childrens movie

The general's character is what really made the movie a hit for me.

Edit: I really should watch that movie again. I loved it, but some of the finer details have been lost to time.

I suggest you interpret the fantasy elements how you'd like. If by "clock thing" you're referring to the Captain's broken watch, his father slammed it down before he died, cracking the face and stopping the watch so his son would know the exact moment of his death. He intended to do the same. raven_squad

A "deep" movie doesnt necessarily mean with lots of symbolism.

I didn't really pick up on the deep meaning. I thought Hellboy 2 was more enjoyable though.

I loved the movie, the story, the acting, the cinematogrpahy and hte dialogue was very good.

To me its Del Toro's 2nd best film, this would be my 2nd fav of his. First would be what you ask? Cover is below :P

Its got some of the grimist examples of torture and murder I have seen in any film, its really not for kids, unless you want to warp them mentally for some kind of social experiment.

good movie overall, not mind-blowing but good. after seeing this im even happier though that del torro isnt doing the hobbit, he has the wrong style if he wants to capture the feel of lotr

This and also even though the rebels defeated the captain if you look up the history you'll see that they lost the war. (I remember a line saying even if this captain was dead there's others just like him) So the ending with the rebels was supposed to portray a small victory before their eventual defeat.
