Never trust a preacher who tells you how to vote.

Those are my thoughts.

He divorced his wife with Alzheimer's and says it's okay to cheat on wife if she gets fat. Also said Putin was doing God's work by invading Ukraine. That fake Christian is burning in Hell no doubt.

This is a happy occasion.

Don't give me any of this "Oh well *insert terrible thing he did* but, uhm, we shouldn't speak ill of the dead".

No, this dude was garbage. And if he was half as spiritual and religious as he claimed to be, he'd know where he was going and it isn't heaven.

It's been a great week for freedom-loving, free-thinking, rational people and a pretty bad week for the far-right and religious fanatics. Things are looking up!

Founder of a very large, and surprisingly influential, Christian-based TV network.

Didn't care for the guy, but I'm curious to see how the stuff he built moves one from his era.

I imagine it will get even more extreme and terrible.

Things as a whole are thankfully getting better and more progressive, but the conservative and far-right remnants tend to get even more radical with the new generation.

We shall see though. It would be nice to see the empire he built crumble after his death but there's too much money at stake.

He blamed gays for 9/11 and Hurricanes. He claimed claimed gay people with AIDS wore special rings that would cut them and anyone they shook hands with so they could purposely infect people with HIV. He suggested the 2010 earthquake in Haiti was God's punishment for making a pact with the devil to fight off colonial oppression. He said Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for abortion. He said that feminism promoted women, "killing their children, practicing witchcraft, destroying capitalism, and becoming lesbians." And that's just a few of his greatest hits. And I haven't even mentioned his associations and dealings.

He was a unqiquely toxic televangelist who surrounded himself with some of the worst people in American history, lied and hocked junk to advance his twisted agenda and pocketbook, and undoubtedly indirectly hurt millions of people through his radioactive rhetoric that the simple-minded fell for, enriching himself at their expense.

He can rest in piss. What he built would collapse into nothingness, were we in a just society.

I strongly encourage anyone interested in this culture war stuff to read some books from some of these folks. Look at the arguments they made, the methods they used. How far we've come since they were published, and how those same methods are being used today against different groups of people.

We'll read the books from the people making those arguments now with just as much disdain. Use that hindsight to develop foresight and make good choices now.
