Actually lots of animals will adopt children if they lose their own and the oppurtunity arises; Emperor punguins for example often trample (unfortunately leading to the chicks death in most instances) chicks which have either lost a parent or simply become lost themselves. It takes a higher state of awareness to feel the same level of self-satisfying pride you seem to be so bitter about.

I agree that people who post about it on social media are annoying though; I think they think it makes them a good selfless person when in actuality it's one of the more selfish responses we have evolved.
