You ever know a person who talks way too much but isn't charismatic at all? I used to work with a guy like that. I feel sorry for the dude because he's probably lonely, but once he's talking to you about nothing important and keeps rambling on about it, you just want to sadistically rend him in twain.

I remember I was ringing one person up one time, and he was standing beside me. I asked the customer, "Did you find everything you want okay?" and he pipes in, "Yeah, well, you better get what you need and not what you want. What you want is never what ya need, but what ya need is more important than what ya want. Like I want a Ferrari, but what I need is a GED. What ya want and what ya need is something you gotta keep apart, know what I'm saying? Because if you only get what you want and not what ya need, you ain't gonna be getting what ya want by the end of the day. And if you do get what ya need --"

The customer would usually become infuriated by this, and I, sensing this, would often encourage them to try to make a break for it and leave the store while he was still collecting thoughts.

Anyways, have you ever known a person like this? How do you react to them?

Yes. Very annoying. (coming from a person who usually says maybe 3 words a day)

I don't like it when complete strangers feel the need to fill silence by blabbering. I went to clinic and sat in a waiting room while they examined the cup I just peed in and this girl next to me kept asking me "what was I in for?" to make conversation, which obviously was none of her effin' business...

Yup, I know the kind. Most of them are people who were lonely as kids and, as such, haven't picked up social norms.

By this I mean, they could have not learnt the basic signals for when a person is bored of what you are saying or does not notice you giving him social signals that you don't want to hear it anymore.

It can also be because they are not socially comfortable and so they find silences awkward.

Those are just reasons from my experience with these people. I just tend to cut them off or direct the topic to something they know nothing about so I can control the conversation. Can be harsh, but no harsher than letting them continue in their ignorance, unknowingly irritating people left, right and centre.

And me as well. Well, I don't do it out of the blue. Mainly when someone says something to me. I actually hate when I get stopped by salesmen who go on and on about how great this product he is trying to sell. I know it is his job but dang he makes it seem like he has found the secret of life or something.

Well it takes all sorts. I don't hate them or feel sorry for them, it's just they way they are.

I work with someone who doesnt stop talking. She goes on and on about gigs and music, ex boyfriends, and famous people she has met. Ive learned to shut out the noise and just nod along as I work. Customers love her but it does get tiring in a funny way when you work with her all the time. She's a nice person though.

That was a poorly missed flirting opportunity right there, my friend. You could have asked her if she was in therefor cuteness reduction surgery, or said something cheesy like "I'm having my jaw repaired, 'cos when I saw you it hit the floor!"

I know lots of them, but I do all I can to indulge them. I am not sure if it is sympathy that makes me behave that way or just the fact that I don't want to hurt somebody's feelings, probably both working in conjunction.

You're assuming I'm either a dude or a lesbian, and I'm neither.

That would have been worse than saying nothing at all.

In layman's terms, I was having too much sex with my boyfriend and my junk went ka-poot. I wasn't exactly comfortable telling her that.

There's one person I know who, if Black Ops is mentioned (it is quite often at our school), he will RAMBLE ON AND ON about his matches that no one cares about.

I wouldn't expect you to be, but I'm also not stuck for half an hour alone in a waiting room with you either.

I work with someone else who does not shut up about the benefits were missing out on because weed is illegal. It's like listening to a broken record.

I used to have a really good friend who would never shut up, and would try to dominate every conversation he got in. It really sucks to be in a group of people with someone like that. Kinda glad I don't talk to him anymore.

My best friend talks a lot. I don't mind though because that guy says the funniest s***. Never a dull moment around him.
