photoshop request help :)

ok i know this is really random but i dont know where else to ask this so i decided to come on here since this is the site i visit the most. ive never used photoshop before so i really have no clue how to use it. i know a lot of people know how to use it and i hope there are some on here who do also.

i got a picture i want to put as a background on my phone but it doesnt look good with a white background so i need to change it to a black background. here is the picture.

Kinda hard as there is a lot of whiteout on her body. I would use masks (look up how to Quickmask), and do your best to try to mask her off, then just bucket-drop black into the picture. I'm not like, an advanced user though, so there might be a more eloquent way of walking you through it or a more refined way to do what you want to do.

I didn't think about leaving a "glow" around her. Nicely done and room for error when masking.

Her hands were the hardest part. Not happy with it, but it's as close as I can get without zooming way in and doing all sorts of fiddly stuff.

Also wish I had Photoshop, but my old version doesn't work in Windows 7. Paint.NET does an okay job, but it's not the same.

it would have been better if you used the pen tool, but it would take too much work which im not willing to do, but thats a decent job

Yeah, beyond a certain point it would take a lot of work to make it look any better. Although I can already see pieces I forgot to cut out of the wand fill I did.

I think I was more curious if something like that could even be done with Paint.NET.
