(Note: the numbers below are for the three day box office due to Memorial Day Holiday)

  1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - $62,179,000 (new release)
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - $19,890,000
  3. Baywatch - $18,100,000 (new release)
  4. Alien: Covenant - $10,525,000
  5. Everything, Everything - $6,185,000
  6. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul - $4,400,000
  7. Snatched - $3,905,000
  8. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword - $3,215,000
  9. The Boss Baby - $1,700,000
  10. Beauty and the Beast - $1,563,000

LOL at Baywatch flopping so hard, who even ask for that movie? But anyways, Deadman Tell No Tales was a fun movie but it could've been better but overall, did okay but this is proof it's losing it's magic and glad it's the final movie in the series. Covenant took a huge hit below.

May 26-28 mojo's box office

Why does a lifeguard movie need a 69 million dollar budget though.

Bigger name actors tend to draw a higher budget because you have to pay them more.

Even if you give The Rock a 20 million cut that's still a high number.

Sort of. There is definitely a trilogy and the 4th movie is not really part of the same story, but still follows Jack. Seems like this (the 5th) movie goes back to the original story to a degree; haven't watched it yet so I can't say for sure.

I went to see it the other day, and enjoyed it. I will say, it felt like the movie was going through the motions sort of, and the pacing was weird. It is not the best Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and felt lifeless at points, but it is pretty good if you've enjoyed the other films and was worth seeing at the theater. It is sort of meant to wrap everything up...but it still kind of leaves the door open for a possible sequel - of course, I don't think that's happening.

@korvus: This fifth movie is kind of like the forth movie in that it doesn't all revolve around the cast from the first three movies, but it has more in common with them than On Stranger Tides did. I also try not to view the first 3 as a trilogy, but more or less the second and third movies as a two-part story. What works even better - is when you look at each movie as having its own distinct villain:

Barbossa > Jones > Beckett > Blackbeard > Salazar

As a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean series, I'm more than happy with this as long as they dish out a good one.

I still prefer the first one. This wasn't as bad as the previous one though with Black Beard, that one just sucked.

@pimphand_gamer: I actually really liked On Stanger Tides. I felt like it had much better pacing than this movie, and I enjoyed the addition of Penelope Cruz's character and the fleshing-out of Barbossa. I don't really get why it is considered to be the low point of the series?
