http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/5923-top-100-albums-of-the-1990s/1/

It's old as hell, but I looked at it recently and was flooded with nostalgia. I've always trusted Pitchfork for album reviews and growing up in the 90s with a lot of the albums, I approve. I couldn't agree more with having Radiohead's "OK Computer", My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" and Neutral Milk Hotel "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" taking spots among the top 5.

I agree with some but seriously that list officially sucks because NIN's Downward spiral wasn't in the top 10. What the hell.

Pitchfork hated Nine Inch Nails until Trent broke from his label. Fact, they gave The Fragile (which is better than The Downward Spiral) 2/10 in their review. I didn't expect to see him appear. If anything a lack of Nine Inch Nails in the list destroys its credibility.

Illmatic should be top 10. And why is pearl jam outdone by nirvana? Kurt Cobain has a souless voice. Black alone is better than all nirvana songs put together.

That's lame, I don't why they'd hate on NIN because of the label. Agreed The Fragile is better than The Downward Spiral but both 10/10

Lol, Mezzanine is in #95? What.

Apart from that, I'm glad Slint's "Spiderland" is high and Loveless is second.

They accused The Fragile of "melodramatic lyrics", which completely ignores the musical spectacle of the album. I'd imagine they disliked Trent due to his lack of indie credibility after TDS exploded and he started to appear in popular culture more often. Of course, that isn't to say his sound ever sold out or anything, maybe Pitchfork just thought so because the reviewer was a moron...

Ignoring the guy completely is just stupid, regardless of whether or not they liked the music, the albums, particularly The Downward Spiral were highly influential. More so than some of the crap in that list.

Their top albums of the 80s/90s are okay in my opinion.

Is anyone following their top 500 songs of the 00s list that's going on this week? It kind of sucks. Actually, it really sucks. Even for Pitchfork.

Though I liked The Fragile I thought The Downward Spiral was far superior.

I haven't read the review for a long time, but I think they said something along the lines of it being boring, and heard it all before, which is funny because The Fragile still sounds like no other album out there. Also any claim that those lyrics were forced is equally ridiculous given Trent's personal situations at that time (death of Grandmother, depression, relapse). The lyrics are honest if anything.

Well I suppose you can't please everybody, thus is the flaw with having lists like this. When your favorite albums don't make the cut the entire thing is discredited.

I'm gonna go check out the review now... I think I'll need a drink before I do this.

Better than most music related lists I see online, although I still don't have the least bit of respect for Pitchfork.

Many albums that I own are in that list: bjork, beck, squarepusher, aphex twin, radiohead, daft punk, air, massive attack, tricky, boards of canada, dj shadow.

But I'm really missing these albums that were incredible back then and are still incredible right now:

- goldie: timeless (how can that one not be in the list at all?)
- roni size reprazent: new forms
- 4hero: two pages
- orbital: in sides
- prodigy: music for the jilted generation
- everything but the girl: walking wounded
- future sound of london: dead cities
- BT: Ima or ESCM
- Leftfield: Leftism
- Chemical brothers: dig your own hole
- underworld: dubnobasswithyourheadman or beaucoup fish
- ken ishii: jelly tones
- squarepusher: hard normal daddy
- moloko: do you like my tight sweater?
- lamb: lamb

Well it's mostly good, especially the hip-hop albums they picked. My only complaint is no Paul Mccartney's "Flaming Pie", no NIN and no RHCP.

I've seen it plenty of times and from a rap perspective they have a lot great hip-hop albums on the list...

99. Raekwon- Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
98. KMD- Mr. Hood [this is MF DOOM's old group for those of you who don't know]
87. GZA- Liquid Swords
84. Company Flow- Funcrusher Plus
80. The Pharcyde- Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde
79. Dr. Dre- Chronic
75. A Tribe Called Quest- Midnight Marauders
71. Dr. Octagon- Dr. Octagonecologyst
63. De La Soul- De La Soul is Dead
56. A Tribe Called Quest- The Low End Theory
50. Outkast- Aquemini
36. Wu-Tang Clan- Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
33. Biggie- Ready to Die
32. Nas- Illmatic
17. Public Enemy- Fear of a Black Planet
7. DJ Shadow- Endtroducing

who would've thought there's actually good hip-hop out there, definitely not OT:roll:

I have also been keeping up with the top 500 songs of the 2000's list they've been releasing this week...

It's a cool list. Still I'm fuming my beloved Nevermind isn't number 1.
Actually I don't care
