This is the first 777 crash with fatalities. It's had an amazing safety record up until now.

The local news station had a story about this as the lead story and one pic I saw showed rocks and drag marks from the runoff extension at the end of the runway that is about 320 long with a road between it and the rocks (actually called riprap).
It appears that something was set wrong in the cockpit for the plane to hit tail first some 1500 feet from the aim point and the touchdown zone.
[QUOTE="JustBeYourself"]Taiwanese run airlines are terrible.Boston_BoyyBut it's based out of South KoreaIt is not just based out of South Korea but is a South Korean airline and not a Taiwanese airline.
It might crash if you don't vote for Obama or Nixon.the beauty of capitalism...airplanes should be created, maintained, and regulated by the state.

Pieces of the tail section of the plane were found in the bay at the end of the runway according to the NTSB. It also appears that the plane was below landing speed (137MPH was recorded) which would account for the tail hitting the water first due to a stall. The pilots asked for a go around just over a second from impact.
