Are males that play female characters/toons on online games like WoW, Guild Wars, Everquest, LoTR etc. weird? Ive heard all the excuses like ... 1. I would rather look at a female for 8 hours than a male. 2. I like to stare at the behind of a female toon rather than the behind of a male toon. and other reasons. But are you so insecure with your sexuality that you feel it is being threatened by playing a male character/toon in online PC games or vice versa?

I played a female in a MMORPG once. You know what happened? 24 year-old virgins were asking me for my address, the way I look, and "Are u realz a gurl?" I told them I was a guy, they told me to, "**** yourself with a broomstick." :|

Playing a female character is better for me because I'm one of those people who don't want to work really hard at a computer game for a long time so all I have to do is go up to a guy player and he gives me money.

I don't find it odd. I mainly play female characters if there's a choice to do so in whatever game I'm playing.

I have nothing wrong with playing as a female, but being a male allows you to pretend I'm cool....

I feel the same a lot, however. It's sometimes cool to play as a female, to see your character from a third person perspective, rather than just feeling like you are them.

I play as a female character in 2moons, but that's really because you can't be a male magician for some reason.

I always play as a male character if I get to pick, but I guess that it's just because I want to look tough like they do... I don't really feel comfortable playing as a female for some reason though. My roommate last year almost always played as a female. He said he would rather stare at the rear of a female for the time he was playing, which made sense to me.

Never made a female character in an MMO. I prefer to play the game realistically. I just wish girls were girls and guys were guys so I could tell peoples genders >.>

But that would defeat the purpose of role-playing! :)

I've played both and neither are weird.

In fact there's no difference except that everyone is nicer to you when you're playing a female character. Sometimes even after they find out the awful truth. 8)

Well, sometimes the female characters (Guild Wars for instance) look better in certain armor *cough*paragon*cough* and people tend to roll females.

I quite enjoy playing as female characters, not only are they easier on the eyes but I can find myself connecting more emotionally to them. Especially "realistic" ones. Like Carla Valenti in Fahrenheit.

You tend to get more free items/weapons/etc... Also you find you are allowed into guilds and teams more often when your a female.

I was initially a male character on Silkroad Online, then I got to level 70 (the cap back then) and I changed female and I got lots of invitations to join guilds and sometimes people were more willing to lend money. The best bit was that people would buy my items because I had a female character.

I guess some people think they are talking to a real girl, so they "treat" you like one. Meh...

I almost always play female characters when possible for fun, but I make sure to let people know that I'm actually a guy.

I like to play things that I'm not IRL, which means that playing a freeloader is out.

If a character gets special powers/bonuses, it doesn't matter what gender they are. I think it's a game, no problem, but sex change is different.

Hmm, I play as a female character all the time in Oblivion...but then, I am a female...so does that make me weird if I choose to play as a male character every once in a while?

In single player RPGs i usually play as a female for both the reasons you mentioned, and becuase females tend to get more mod coverage. But i would never play as a female in an online game (unless the class demanded on it, ie Diablo 2). I would shake my head everytime a saw a g.i.r.l. in Flyff, but then my brain would be mush.

All of my fiance's characters on World of Warcraft are female. He prefers the aesthetics of the females in the game, in general, and he finds it pretty damn funny to be hit on.

Its not big deal which you play as, its just a game. Characters weapons or attributes might be different, and the person might prefer those weapons or attributes.
