So im finally getting some drums. I've wanted a kit since i was like 7. After having my music teacher say its a shame i dont play because i have a knack for percussion. hehe

i was just wondering if any people who play musical instruments regret learning, was ita waste of money.

Also could i teach myself, because im not to keen on lessons.

I don't really have any use these days for knowing how to play the drums but I still love the fact that I know how to do it. I couldn't tell you or not if it was a waste of money because my mom paid for a few lessons and then learned the rest on my own. If you've got rhythm and can read music and know proper form and all that, you can probably learn a good deal on your own and then ask your music teacher for help if you have questions

Well i play the drums and it is quite rewarding and fun. Theres much more guitarists then drummers nowadays so if you got some skill bands need you. Your rather unique in a band. IMO it lets you show your individualatliy more then guitar because you adapt your own type of playing style over time. I learned to play on my own own with no lessons, though lessons would have certainly helped. Just listen to songs that are quite simple to play at first, like ACDC, then move on to more complex stuff that you like. Just put on some headphones and try to play along

In no way is it a waste of money if you spend the time to practice and learn it. I've been playing drums off and on for a couple years and I'm really glad I am able to play them.

I took lessons for a month or two but I really didn't continue them. I basically learned on my own so I'd say its possible to learn on your own.

Well, I used to be a drummer, but recently I went for guitar. It's pretty fun, actually, and thanks to Guitar Hero and the fact that about 90% of the time the guitarist is the band's main attraction(the only exceptions I know for these are Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rush, and that's because both have insane bassists and Neil Peart from Rush's the best drummer ever IMO...XD), almost everyone's taking up guitar, so if you ever wanna get in a band, drummers are in demand, as are bassists(not so much, I have a few friends who play bass, but not NEARLY as much as guitars) and singers(these guys are IMPOSSIBLE to find...XD And problem is it's sort of hard to pick up singing, it's something you have to be born with, it would seem...)...I say go for it! =)

My Uncle was Bobby Christian; look him up if you don't know what kind of drummer he was. When I was a kid, he gave me a few lessons; and then told me to stick to Football.

Drumming is so worth it.

It makes you feel alive when you are jamming out to a song!
