point of gargling?

Sometimes when people brush their teeth, they gargle with the water/toothpaste... what's the point of this? what exactly does it do? :P (besides make a funny noise)

It's a cool sound. The same reason people blow bubbles in their soft drink.

It actually gets deeper into your mouth and cleans out back there :P hence that people gargle with Listerine (bacteria killer) :)
