I wouldn't say they've gone "too far" with it, because that insinuates that it's been pushed past an extreme, and I don't think it's necessarily great or terrible just yet. It depends on certain cases.

MrGeezer
If keeping Bill Maher around was potentially damaging to them, I don't see any reason why they SHOULDN'T be able to fire him.
But its because of political correctness that he was damaging to them. They should be able to fire him; its just a horrible situation.

What he said offended people, and they started pulling ads.
1) If people are offended by what he says, should they feel obligated to keep supporting the network?
2) And if the network finds that it is damaging to them, why should they keep him on?
Can you please explain to me what exactly the problem is?
You're right. I say that we should invent even more words meant to marginalize and dehumanize groups of people based upon their physical characteristics.I think we make certain words and phrases more dangerous by giving them power and avoiding them. If we didn't give racial slurs the power that we do they would be useless.

Society has gone too far with being political correct. And yes, I do see it as a bad thing. It's one of the major problems I have with the Gamespot forums in general.

*waves goodbye*I'm sure you'd like the forums that shall not be named a lot more. After all, they have basically no rules at all.
I already said the second part is okay. And the comments were something that shouldn't offend. I find it really insensitive to the 9-11 victims that they DID pull their ads.
But that's exactly the problem with political correctness; it takes away from the actual problem.

Who are you to say what should or shouldn't offend people? Who put you in charge of deciding what is and isn't offensive?

I should've phrade that differently. If people know that something is a certain way, then when someone says something differing they call it "offensive" imo, they are not right (necessarily).
And, taking away the point-of-view did not in any way help 9-11 victims and their familes.

Doesn't matter if they're right or not. They got offended, so they said so. If ABC wanted to, they could have kept Bill Maher's show, and told the critics to go to hell.

but, that's exactly why I hate political correctness. And I'm not saying Bill was right either. But, its just a comedy show and pulling the ads when you don't like what's being said is (ironically or not) cowardly. Muting someone doesn't make them wrong.

And yet, you want to "mute" the people who get offended.
The part in red isn't "political correctness" as much as it is simply free speech. Pulling the ads sends a message that they don't approve of what is being said. And if they don't approve of what''s being said, why should they continue to help paying for it?

Honestly "that site" is not as bad as everyone thinks in my opinion. Of course people use their no restriction on posts to a certain abusive extent, that site offers more insight on how people really think than on Gamespot without having boundaries.[QUOTE="smc91352"]

no I don't (I was just saying that the "offense" is a bad argument)
And, really; The show is called Politically Incorrect ffs. The "offense" really should (to say the least) be expected.

You're still doing it. You're still sort of implying that they either should or should not have been offended, or that they shouldn't have said anything if they got offended.
There are no objective criteria for what should or shouln't offend someone. You either get offended, or you don't.
And you're suggesting that the advertisers should have held their mouths shut since they should have expected to be offended by a show of that type? I disagree entirely. Just because the show is called "Politically Incorrect" doesn't mean there are no standards for decency. Obviously the advertisers thought that a line had been crossed. You might not agree that a line had been crossed. But you're not the one who was buying ad space on the show. They WERE the ones giving financial support to the network, and they have the right to use their money however they choose.
Yes, being politically correct has gone to far. What's ironic about "political correctness" is that it only applies to minority groups. I've never heard ANYONE EVER call me Caucasian-American or European-American, I get referred to as "White", yet I'm supposed to use words like "African-American" and "Native-American"?. Nope. They're Black and Indians.
Agreed. Specially bla... I mean, Afroameri... Africaname... well... Now I dont even know how to call this group! Everyone is about to jump to your neck if you have a direct mention of skin color, religion or genetic/ physical handicaps.....curonoI call them black as they call me white. The day I am labeled as European American is the day I call them African American.
Political corectness has killed more people than it has saved. The only reason it is still alive today is because selfish politicians could care less about who dies along the way, as long as they keep getting elected. Fort Hood is a perfectexample. If they had just taken care of the problem when it crossed the Army's radar, that tragedy never would have happened. But no, our elected officials needed to make sure theysaythey didn't target himbecause he is Middle Eastern, but because he presented a legitamate threat to American lives. I couldn't care less what ethnicity he is, he was in contact with extremists and radicalists that we arewar with! Now people are hurt becausepoliticianscared more aboutgetting reelected intotheir plushy postionsthan the lives of fellow Americans.
THAT is political corectness and yes...it went to far a long time ago.
Definitely. I mean, I can get scolded if I say "mankind" because it's "sexist". Or I have to call businessmen "businesspersons" because I wouldn't want to offend a woman. What a ****ing joke.
Political correctness is just a fail. Here is an example: TV stations try to be politically correct by saying Merry X-mas or Happy Holidays, so no one is offended. Now Christians, like myself, are not so happy, some are angry, that Christmas is being replaced to spare people's feelings when first of all i doubt many people mind the name Christmas unless they are hyper-sensitive. Second, it is such a sacred day and it doesn't need to be edited to fit other people.
So you want them to change it back so you're not offended. :PPolitical correctness is just a fail. well thats the thing im trying to say. either we are offended or they are offended, but the issues were never really brought to light much until someone tried to be PC. then people start saying"hey yeh! im offended, i like pc much more!" then we say "hey no! its right the way it is. i hate pc!" and it goes on like that.
