I do not have an opinion on the subject, nor do I believe opinions can really be made. And here is why:

There is absolutely no current universal definition of "Life". These characteristics are what we use to define Life:

Adaptation, Homeostasis, Organization, Growth, Metabolism, Response to stimuli, Reproduction

There are problems with those characteristics. First off (somewhat off-topic), Catatonic Schizophrenics alone will occasionally lack the 6th characteristic. 2nd, Those characteristics only apply to life on Earth so I'll make this simple for those who believe in Evolution, or Creationism:

If you believe Evolution is real: Then those characteristics apply to life that has evolved to our planet, filled with water, oxygen, etc. Who knows how life would evolve on a different planet.

If you believe Creationism is real: Then that life applies to what God created for thisplanet. He created us to survive one this Earth.

Let's not make this about Religion. Now, I continue with this statement:

We could go to another planet, and find a "creature"...Let's just say he looks like those stereotypical Steven Spielberg (Sp?) aliens. That creature could eat, sleep, make and use tools, and even communicate with others like itself. It walks, make noises and just for fun, let's say he like do dance a little. Yet it could lack the characteristics I listed earlier. Would you then say "No, that is not Life?".

One more view I will talk about. Many people say "Look at how big the universe is. There is probably Life on other planets". The flaw with this statement is this.

Let's say that (just an example) this is the number of planets in the universe: 10 X 10,000 ^ 5,000,000,000,000,000

We don't know the probability of a planet creating life. For all we know, it could be this number:

1 / 10 X 10,000 ^ 100,000,000,000,000,000

My point is that we don't know, so the statement listed above cannot be valid.

Now, discuss

If there is another solar system elsewhere, then possibly.

But of our own, no... not really.

Well we developed from lightning hitting water and chemicals so I figure it is extremely likely that their could be dancing aliens out there.

Like I say: It would be illogical to think there wasn't life on another planet in the universe.

exactly.  Otherwise you would think that the Earth is the center (not physically) of the entire universe.  Which is quite vain imo.

i have o say yes just from playing the odds. . theres waht like a million billion trillion stars in the univers . . . if even like 1/4 of them have planets around them that would be what still well over a couple billion solar systems the odds are at least one has to be close to earth and able to support some sort of live

We don't really know if the universe is infinite, and if the big bang theory is true, and there wasn't an infinite amount of different big bangs in our universe, then we cannot be 100% positive

You don't know the odds unless you can answer this question: What is the probability of life being created?

no, but the chances of there not being any life in the universe except for us is... let's just say 1.0x10^1/googleplex.  Which is as close to impossible as you can get without it actually being impossible. :P

May I add that the universe is not infinite, just unbound. But still...it's huge. Plus, there is evidence poitning towards the big bang anyways, so whatever.

The chances of life being created are incredibly low...but just like a lottery, you're told that you have a super low chance of winning it, but PEOPLE STILL WIN IT. Same with life occuring on a planet, may be a low chance, but it still happens.

I agree. There are billions of galaxies with trillions of stars and err...zillions(?) of planets out there and that is still only about .05% of the universe we've seen. Yes there is life out there having all that and only life on one planet is like walking down the street at night and thinking all the other homes are empty because the lights are off.

Damn, that new Sig editor software they put can be so buggy. I hate when you type message and it makes you scroll to the left. They really need to fix that. And alot of times, I'll type a message and it will say I didn't type anything...does that ever happen to anybody else?

If there's an edge, it's not infinite But it's unbound....the rate of it's expansion that is. The moment you'd get to the edge, it wouldn't be the edge..

We have already found microscopic organisms on asteroids but microscopic organisms are the start of full life so...yeah I think there is full life too.

I also think there could be life on planets other than ours, we just adapted to thing planet I am sure there are lava creatures, water, ice ect. Also for the fact our planets are not the only ones I remember reading they have found a planet type that isn't like anything in our system. It was about 4 times bigger than jupiter but light as a feather. Weird huh?

I can almost imagine it, right now on some other planet, in a distant place, other life forms are posting on their game forums, attempting to answer the same question, that we are right now! :)

[QUOTE="AARONRULZ1"]Its stupid to think we are the only "life" in the universe.Dasc00

We cannot really determine if there is Life on other planets...if we don't really know what Life is...

By life I'd assume he meant our type of life, carbon based, you know the defintions....

Yeah i meant carbon based life, even though there might other kinds of life in this universe.
