Nope. I can't draw well at all. I've been doing some poetry lately. It's therapeutic and I have a grasp on language so that's much easier than drawing for me. :P

I haven't drawn in awhile. I've been focusing more on photoshop and 3d modeling, so my wacom tablet has been sitting next to my computer collecting dust.

Do you draw on Photoshop?

Yeah, but I don't use my tablet, and it's just for touch-ups once I get the general layout done.

I've been drawing in Photoshop because it's part of my major and I don't have to worry about running out of art supplies.

Well once I get into art school, I'm going to be majoring in game art, and 3d modeling is probably going to be more useful than drawing in later stages of development, but I'm still going to try to keep up with both.

Don't know yet, I've got a lot of options. I just got out of high school, and I'm going to community college over the summer, fall, and spring, and then once I've got a nice portfolio, I'm going to send it to all of the ones that interest me. Luckily, Austin Community College has a really good game art program, so I'll have plenty of time to practice and familiarize myself with more 3d programs, since I'm only fluent with Lightwave.

My school's game art program has close ties with Blizzard, Bethesda, insomniac, and other game companies. Last year, Blizzard hired some sophmores from my major.

For 3D modeling I've been using 3D Studio Max, which is the preferred modeling program to use in the game industry. During my first semester I took a course in Maya and during second semester they had me working with 3DSM which is completely different from Maya and it's like I had to learn 3D modeling all over again.

For your portfolio you're going to want to have a lot of figure drawings, still life drawings, and digital art. ;)

That's the one thing that I'm not looking forward to. My first 3d modeling program was Rhino, and then switching from that to Lightwave wasn't too bad, but it still took me awhile to get used to. There were some features that Rhino had that Lightwave doesn't that made some aspects of modeling a little more difficult.

You should look into using Maya and 3D Studio Max.

Eventually you're going to have to stick with 3DSM because it translates files into game engines much better than Maya can.

However you can still model things in Maya and import them into 3DSM.

Yeah, I figured I'd have to go with those two programs, and I wish my electronic media class had those programs instead of lightwave. But I suppose it won't be too hard to switch over. I mean, once you get a good feel for 3d modeling in general, it doesn't seem to take too long to get used to a different program.
