Your opinion of them? Are they worth the time, effort, and (if you're a guy) money? Or do you find them absolutely unnecessary?

Yay sexism. I think it's funny that people think they actually matter. Hilarious actually.

definitly worth it, its where most people find their first "love" even though at this age no one knows what love really is. But still chances are you'll remember that special someone from your highschool days for years to come. I'm currently in grade 12 and my hs sweet heart and I broke up over this past summer vacation, we talk and whatnot still, but it still hurts. I can't wait to get outta town and move on lol.

i think they are ridiculous....people in highschool just do it for fun and to fit in... they just go out with the "hottest" people..that wont actually make it in life, and when they are adults they're going to have a hard time finding anybody that would go out with them in highschool...because adults realize there is a lot more than hotness... and then everybody gossips about it and makes a big deal out of it just because its something new to all of them...and they think its cool.... and after 5 months...they break up...i think they are incredibly pointless....just watch Laguna Beach....thats pretty much what it is...

Depends. I think you might as well take a chance. I'm going to be marrying my High School sweet heart, we've been together since 9th grade, and I couldn't imagine High School without her. Sure, some are throw away, but if I never took the chance, who knows where I would be right now?

Yeah, how will that be when you "break up" with that person and you "hate" them due to insignificant things? I'm quite happy with all of my (female) friends, I'd rather keep it that way. Also, presuming that guys have to be in charge is quite sexist.

I don't understand why people would say that high school relationships are bad if they're enjoyed. Forget 'oh, what happens when you go to college'. Relationships are about enjoyment and attraction and friendship and teenagers really do seem very good at this when they truly care to engage in it. I don't have any real basis for that comparison, but that's what I've seen.

Cocaine is enjoyed quite frequently as well. Now, there's nothing _wrong_ with them, they're simply far overhyped and given too much important. I cared much more about my college applications than I cared about who was "going out" with who. It seemed to work out quite well.

I think they can lead to something. Also I guess it's good experience and I don't mean that in just a sexual way.

pretty much...in highschool its mostly for popularity and drama....with a rare few exceptions....there are way more important things to be focusing on when your in highschool....and if you actually did what you were supposed to do in high school....by the time your out of college you should have a great life and a great girl...one that will actually matter in your life and last.... for the people that cared more about who was going out with who...over there GPA....there gonna have to get pretty lucky...

Sexual relationships are as important to me as grades are, if not more important. Grades don't really bring me any pleasure, nor does money. Education does though, and that's my main incentive in not completely slacking off in school.

Very interesting opinions here. Personally, I think they are fine, but unfortunately people make them much a bigger deal than they should be. That, and people THINK they are as big a deal as they SHOULDN'T be.

Lame. Seriously, you care more about your grades than girls? You're probably the type to say teenagers can't fall in love and money brings happiness, eh? What's so screwed up about education and why it REALLY sucks is because kids get grades out of fear or desire for a good career rather than a genuine interest in learning, in knowledge. It's lame.

How do you expect to get into a good college (meaning a good education) without good grades? Of course, it depends on your major. English, math, history...yeah, you can probably get that anywhere. Specialized stuff like oh, say, game design, might be harder. No, I don't care more about my grades than relationships. Just not the kind of relationships that are fairly implied in this thread.

I can just goddamn read the rest of my life to get educated. I learn more myself than I do at school anyway for the most part, except for perhaps mathematics, which I do not care for at all anyway.

If we are talking high school, the GPA will get you into college, which will get you a good job, which will put a roof over your head. A girlfriend will not get you into college, will not get you a good job, and if an average American, will not be able to put a roof over your head.
EDIT: However, if you're in love then I guess it doesn't matter. If you are a HS grad only, with a fair job and living in rather poor conditions, I suppose it doesn't matter if you're in love and happy. But even people extremely in love do not feel that happiness 24/7/365.

So you get good grades essentially out of a desire for money. I want to do things that make me happy and money is not a thing that does that for me. I will not be poor but I never expect to be rich nor would I ever want to be. I want to enjoy myself and I'll not preclude myself from that enjoyment so that I can further on down the road. That's silly.

because your GPA will end up affecting your entire life?? The job you have, where you live, how you live, how much money you have (whether you want to believe it or not...you need money to live, and if you dont have money...your going to have a really unhappy life) in highschool "love" lasts for around 5 months...and you said yourself...its more about fun than it is really being in love... my plan for now is to focus more on my future now....doing good, going to a good college, getting a good job...so im secured for the rest of my life...and then you can fine love that will actually matter, it can actually last more than 5 months...it will be more than just making out and then telling your friends how cool you are for doing it...you can have a family, and then your set for life... how is that not a reasonable plan??

Yay ignorance.

Anyway, I think they're good, considering I'm in one now. :)

Yeah, how will that be when you "break up" with that person and you "hate" them due to insignificant things? I'm quite happy with all of my (female) friends, I'd rather keep it that way. Also, presuming that guys have to be in charge is quite sexist.

Thank you for jumping to conclusions. I really like you.

Really.

I've been going out with my girlfriend for nearly a year now, and if we broke up over stupid stuff like others do, we'd have broken up plenty of times already. :)

Also, chivalry does not equal sexism.

I get good grades so I can live in a house in a good neighborhood with a couple normal cars. I don't want a mansion with unnecessary luxury cars. My point is a good GPA is more likely to get that than a girlfriend. If I find a girl that I fall in love with, it's still not going to deter me from being where I want to be financially. Basically, I don't want to have to live paycheck to paycheck. Hard to be happy with your girl when you're worrying if you'll be able to pay for the next set of bills...

I'd say no. Most high school girls these days are too self centered and shallow to be interested in a serious relationship, not to mention I won't get any sex out of it. I don't want to have to worry about knocking her up or getting STD's so I'm just waiting it out. I guess that leaves you with making out.

My brother met his future wife during his Freshman year.  I would say they are definately worth it.  Though, I do believe the word 'love' has lost nearly all meaning among high schools today.

I'd say their important, nice expirience builders.
