It is a battle royale the slim and slender Mac, or thebusiness powerhouse Pc?

The choice is yours-

Rules: Bashing is Allowed, but no personal attacks

  • You must make a valid point
  • Dont say anything if you dont know what your talking about
  • Vote and Vote and o yeh vote

The Contenders-

  • Macbook Pro vs Professional Grade Windows Laptop
  • Mac Pro vs Windows Workstation
  • OS10 vs Windows Vista

Keep it clean Guys!

Mac's are great for creative stuff like what I do! I have a gaming pc and on My macbook pro I play Battlefield 2. My mac loads photoshop in 4 seconds and boots up in 10 seconds.

I dont want a "creative" machine. I want something practical that is cheap to buy and runs all the games I want. I don't buy electronic stuff based on how cool it may be.

I haven't tried a mac, but based on what the adverts claim they're useful for, I'd have no use for them thus I stick with Windows. I suppose more people would like Mac OS X if you could run it on standard hardware and not just on macintosh computers. I've also tried various distributions of linux and whilst it was decent, it just didn't impress me.

PC because that's where the software is.

Beyond that, they both have there own issues so it's a tit for tat thing.

Macs might not get viruses, not because they can't but rather because there market is so small there's really no reason. Who would you rather infect 100,000,000.00 or 100?

Macs do run well for the most part, beyond the whole font manager issue that ironically deals with things like the mac itself and adobe font managers. I support this for work and it's such a nightmare it's funny.

PC's in general have few more hang ups, but then again as I stated in the beginning it's worth it for the software by far.

Oh and the one last reason why I don't use macs, they are intentionally marketed for people who aren't "smart" enough to use a PC. I find that one very funny. They put out commercials about people who can't figure out a pc, but then they push one button on a mac and they are "saving christmas" or some such nonsense. Or even better... I can't work a PC... and I'm a police man in your town. Yikes. What does that say about the police men in my town.

Anyway, yeah macs feel the need to bash PC's in commercials because they need to. PC's on the other hand quietly rule the world and don't bother with there little brother mac machine.

This sounds like I'm totally against mac's, I'm not. I even find them superior to pc's in a few ways. But not enough to make me see the value in actually switching to one. Before I do that I'll just go Ubuntu for free and get the same experiance.

PC, because I have absolutely no idea what the hype is about when it comes to Macs. I'm not trying to bash, I just don't get it. My girlfriend has a Mac: OSX doesn't seem all that special, it doesn't start up that much faster than my crappy PC (it would blow your mind how much my PC sucks, but my laptop should be here in 3 days), she never uses any of its special features, etc. It just seems pointless to me for a regular person to have one.

I like my pc because i can modularly upgrade it. if i need a new video card, wham, pop it in, install drivers and I'm home free.

upgrading a mac however is done in 2 steps:

1. Throw it out the window.

2. Buy another.

I don't know why people say Macs don't crash, because I see them crash all the time...especially the macs at school (I'm a lab assistant there..), usually when someone's running a program, then tries to access Finder, and you get the 'spinning wheel of death', as we call it...and more often than it should happen, I go to click Shutdown, say Ok on the prompt, and then the screen goes grey/black, displays a few different languages in case I don't speak English, and says something about how OS X just crashed and I need to manually shut down the computer. This black screen thing shows up even when we do nothing to it! All I did was click Shut down, there were no programs open! Nothing was plugged in or out of the computer either :T

Also if you're doing 3D like we are at school, mac is not ideal to use at all...to get the same amount of render/display power as a pc you'd end up paying wayyy more money (as in hundreds and maybe thousands).

Sometimes the macs won't launch OS X, and they're stuck at that grey loading screen or the plain blue screen inbetween... so I try to PRAM it, and more often than not PRAM doesn't work...I get no chimes (and yea the speakers would be on)... it's like luck of the draw. Sometimes though if I leave it just long enough (like 20-30 min!) OS X *might* load...

Mac's can do everything but game. Mac's can run windows, os X, and linux. They cost more, but it's like, 10% more.

I prefer pc desktops and apple laptops. I voted pc because I've owned around seven or eight pcs, but only one apple. it's a nice laptop, but the (over-)price really can be prohibitive.

I should add that the apple works wonderfully as a work computer, even in IT-heavy roles.

I have three Macs in my house (two 20" iMac G5s and a 17" Macbook Pro). But honestly, I'm happy with any computer that I can use iTunes with and just get on the Internet and have it load up pages quickly. :)

Games and all the extra versatility is just a plus.

The only, only, only, only time I ever touch Windows is if I want to play video games. The rest of the time is spent on Ubuntu Linux.

Linux has the most security out of the three, including virus protection. It doesn't have those annoying quick-launch items on the task bar, though you can add them if you like, and you can add multiple task bars and much more. Windows is kinda designed to destroy itself because of the Registry and DLL files, Linux is based off of Unix, which is definently stable.

The only reason why I don't use Mac is because it doesn't have the games I want and don't feel like laying down more cash for an extra computer when I already have one.

It has an option to use the rest of your empty space on your hard drive. I used Magic Partition before I installed it though, so I don't know how well it works.
