Pretty generic thread...
but dogs are superior in every way to cats except for the cleaning up crap factor.
cats can take care of themselvesteh_destroyerNo they can't, their so domesticated. Let an indoor cat and a dog that doesn't go out much outside into the world and assuming they didn't get hit by a car, a dog would live much longer. There was a special on National Geographic about what would happen if humans disappeared all of a sudden. They said dogs would eventually find a way to break out of their houses and learn to survive by hunting. I don't see cats being able to hunt and survive on their own.
Cats are smarterCreamBeavI think a cats intelligence is overrated and a dogs intelligence is underrated. Dogs know their own name, they know the name of people, they recognize words like "walk" and "treat" and I saw a special on TV that said if you taught a dog they could understand around 120 words. A cat could walk by you and you could yell out her name and she'd just walk by you without looking like your talking to someone else.

Yeah, my dog knows "sit," "lie down," "stay," "sit up," "shake," "paw (iteration of shake)," "roll over," "jump," "drop it (like a ball)," "leave it (go to the bathroom)," "come here," and "go away (and "get lost")." She knows her name very well, understands what different tones of voices mean, and recognizes/comprehends the words "outside," "treat," "go for a ride," and "no," as well as a few others.
I don't see cats doing that.

Cats know better than to put up with "Man's" BS. Didn't I say they were smarter?
parent's love to praise their children's independence...there is a reason...

Maybe it's that, or maybe they're just less intelligent. How would you know which it is?
Cats by far. I enjoy dogs, but they smell, slobber, and smell your crotch. Small dogs that jump up and nip are the worst. My friend has one and she constantly needs attention, which annoys the HELL out of me.....I'd kick her off of me if my friend wasn't there. I HATE that dog, absolutely hate her. I really couldn't care less if she passed. Cats are independent and generally don't give a **** about anything. Well, that's not entirely true, but it is in most cases. I find that admirable. I will admit that dogs are more loyal and always happy go lucky moreso than cats, but my cat is always happy to see me and literally climbs up my pants and shirt to snuggle on my shoulder when I get home, where he chills out (he's twenty pounds) while I do chores or watch T.V. or game.
I like dogs (big dogs, that is) and have owned a few, but if I had a choice I would choose a cat, unless a dog really got to my heart. I'll admit I also have a bias against dogs because I was attacked when I was younger.
What's with all the cat hate?
Anywho, i prefer cats, they are smarter, you work less for them. What's with the burning building, if you can't get out a dog would not help, so what's the point? At least my cats care, i don't know what cats you've been seeing...

Your cat must be retarded, most cats i've known know their name and come when called too. I can tell one of my cats "Tom-tom, come her!" and he would come to me.

I think he should just stop watching TV and come back into the real world.

Cats are naturally selfish and vicious. Dogs are awesome in every way, shape, and form.
I'd love him forever.
I voted for dogs. Cats dont need you, they can go off for days on end and come back in one piece. Whereas a dog becomes dependant on its owner which is why they have the instinct to protect their owners.
Cats for me thanks, dogs tend to smell a bit more, you have to take them for walks and pick up their poo. At least with cats they either do it outside and bury it or in a kitty litter tray where you just scoop and chuck it in the bin. They're just less work. I still like dogs though, I just prefer cats. The ones that I don't like are the people who go 'OMG! I HATE cats' for no good reason...
This picture isn't gonna help our case for dogs. That dog looks like a leper, no offense but that's the ugliest dog I've ever seen.UltimateXShadow
I'll admit I also have a bias against dogs because I was attacked when I was younger.RekuntaSo your one of those people who got attacked by a dog 20 years ago and because of that you think every single dog in the world is gonna attack you?

Are you kidding? Cats can survive on their own just fine. They rely less on humans than dogs do.
Cats are smarter, if that's anything to go by.
I know many human animals who own dogs and worship them more than their human female counterpart, if THAT is anything to go by...

Really? Ever meet a fully trained German Sheperd? No cat even comes close to one.

I don't see cats being able to hunt and survive on their own.Uh, buddy, I have 4 cats living outside, and I don't give them any cat food seeing as how they live off hunting easily. Do you know what you're talking about? Set a dog outside and let's see it hunt something and then eat it. It would probably starve to death.

That's why cats are smarter. They know how to bring your slippers, but just try and ask one to. If you listen really closely you will hear a faint "screw you, I'll do what I want"
This is not a matter of preference, but dogs ARE the better animal. They do not call them man's best friend for nothing. They are more loyal, intellegent, and more active (which could be a bad thing too). Cats are great, but they are no where near as great as Dogs.Grodus5
It is preference. I do not like dogs. I do not think they are great.
