Platoon definately...saving private ryan is good too, but I vote for Platoon..I mean Oliver Stone wrote it based on his actual experiences in Vietnam...doesn't get more real or better than that..
Schindler's List was very very good. I thoroughly enjoyed that movie.Because there are so many war movies out there to choose from, why need a poll?
My favorite war films are Schindler's List, Downfall, and Taegukgi.

I second Apocalypse Now. Easily trumps every other war movie I've ever seen.Where's 'Apocalypse Now?' What about 'All Quiet on the Western Front?'

All Quiet on the Western Front was a great movie, however it really bugged me that they had depicted all the Germans speaking perfect English. I can understand though because I'm not sure if they even had movie editing techniques such as dubbing or subtitling at the time in which to create a German language film for an American audience.

All Quiet on the Western Front was the first war movie ever made, having been made in 1930, and won Best Picture for that year as well. What I noticed was that it really seemed modern to me, everything from the sound effects to the horrors the soldiers saw on the battlefield.

That's whay I liked about it. There were a lot of things in that movie that were considered to be shockers to most people at the time.
EDIT: Spoiler tag doesn't seem to be working.
Saving Private Ryan turned me into a WW2 buff and its still incredible today as it was 11 years ago. Downfall as well is an incredible movie and accurately shows what happened in the last days of ww2, the casting and performances are perfect, especially Bruno Ganz (who played Hitler with brilliant accuracy) Even if you are not a fan of war films, these two movies need to be seen by everyone to see just what happened in that madness. Throw in Band of Brothers as well, can't forget that series
My Favorite of all time has to be between Black Hawk Down, We Were Soldiers, Patton, The Longest Day, Tears of The Sun, or Platoon.
I enjoyed Longest Day quite a bit. We Were Soldiers was not bad at all... I found it more satisfying to watch than Saving Private Ryan. Of course, it was just Mel Gibson running around with his assault rifle gunning down the NVA like no tomorrow, but a pretty solid film nonetheless.
