The Dome of the Rock is a Muslim Mosque in Jerusalem where Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammad ascended into heaven from. As a sign of respect, Benedict removed his shoes before entering. He also visited the Wailing Wall, the holiest site of Judaism, where the ancient temple stood. And he visited Gethsemane where Jesus prayed before he was eventually arrestedand crucified.

The Pope is on a trip to the Holy Land this week. He major goals are to visit Holy Sites, to promote peace, to encourage the small Christian population in the Holy Land and to improve Catholic-Jewish and Catholic-Islamic relations.

So how do you think the trip is going and how will it go? And why have most major News networks been silent on this trip?

It is a difficult balancing act for him trying to improve relations to both the Jews and the Muslims, if he reaches out too far to one group he may alienate the other.

Indeed. I am not Muslim, but I respect Muslims and try not to be a total fool in regard to their beliefs. Let's hope Leonidas never goes to the Middle East and calls the Dome of the Rock "a rock", seriously some people over there might react violently.

why because the Pope is Deutsch (German)? All the more reason for the Pope to care about this issue.

Why shouldn't it matter? Because of his pointy hat? (By the way the pope only wears the miter during liturgical functions, not for everyday situations. And what should matter, some washed up Comedian making insensitive Jokes about Kidney failure and 9/11?

I think Benedict also thinks that his "beloved predecessor" wasa much better man. They are very close to each other, if it weren't for John Paul, Benedict probably wouldn't be Pope, and if it weren't for the aid of Cardinal Ratzinger, John Paul's papacy would have been lessened.

Here's a picture of the two of them.

Yes it does, as they had no idea of the horrors that was going on about the concentration camps, and Hitlers final solution.

Anti-semitism was spread by the state, and the government was not secretive at all about the concentration camps. Granted, they were secretive that genocide was happening, but you don't round up 11 million people and lock them away without someone noticing. Also, just let my tasteless joke die already.

Who cares about Big nose Bill Maher? honestly you claim that the Pope and the Dome of the Rock are irrelevant and yet you bring up Maher? Isn't Maher more irrelevant than Jewish-Christian-Islamic relations that affect the whole peace process in the middle east?
