Vista + ObjectDock, Rainmeter, and Switcher. The former two applications are usable on XP as well.

ObjectDock for the top/bottom docks and system tray

Rainmeter for the calendar/clock/system monitor

Switcher for multi-tasking (requires Vista+Aero)

Don't let the memory consumption in the system monitor fool you, either. That's just Vista doing its thing. All 3 of those applications use very minimal amounts of resources. They're currently using around 20MB of physical memory on my machine (combined.)
