I'm going to bring up this issue in the most diplomatic way as I can. I noticed that the overall quality of messages in most of the Gamespot forums is really poor. Perhaps I am spoiled by websites where people try to maintain the highest quality of posts, and people who post poor quality messages are ignored.

I would say that my English is at a moderate level. I can form a paragraph and spell most words properly. Sometimes I wonder if many people on this forum are even literate.

Occasional spelling mistakes, typos and formatting errors are understandable but I see so many horrible posts that it makes my eyes bleed.

I'll just make a list of things I want to nitpick about:

- "i" - One of the first things people learn in Elementary School is that "I" is always capitalized.

- sum1, 1more, 4ever - It probably takes longer to look for the appropriate number on the keyboard than it does to actually spell the work properly.

- No apostrophes! - Sometimes people don't know where to put an apostrophe, but it's obvious when you spell words like "can't, wasn't, don't etc."

I could rant all day about this topic, but I summed it up. If the people who actually do have a grasp of the English language ignore people who post poor quality messages then the quality of the forum will rise.

honestly, what difference does it make if the message is completely readable and it takes less time for the poster to skip your suggestions above?

Grammar does not constitute quality, in my opinion at least.

This has been acknowledged weekly since the dawn of man. There isn't anything we can do about it.

It's the internet not a classroom. So unfortunately people aren't going to listen to you but there are some here that agree with you wholeheartedly. As long as I can understand what a poster is trying to say I am okay with it.

If my biggest irritant was grammatical errors on forum posts, I'd consider myself lucky.

I agree. Quality is a combination of good content and grammar. For example: If you have a great resume, you may not be hired if it has poor spelling, grammar and formatting.

Good thing we live in an age of computers, where we can run grammar, spell check and do auto-formatting. Although, you are pretty screwed if you type a word that is a homonym or synomym.

Why can't people use the spell check option for posting messages then?

That does annoy me when people rush their posts and cannot take the time to spell check words. Sometimes a word doesn't show up and I can understand that. Another thing to realize is that GS is a site visited internationally and english is not the first language for many people. But for people who type like morons and know better, I have no sympathy.

Didn't you know, the internet was built for the lazy. :) Spell check involves to many extra clicks. Seriously, you will never change the quality of posts in OT. That means grammar or quality. You are more than welcome to try. Many have set off on such a crusade never to be heard from again. Have you checked out any of the User Created Boards or Unions? They tend to have more thought provoking discussion and may fit your standards better.

Why can't people use the spell check option for posting messages then?

several factors:

1. You would be wrong to assume the all who are posting here speak English as a first language, English to me is a very second language, therefore you can notice a lot of errors in my English, its just can't be helped, I have a 1st language to worry about.

2. As for GS forums, you realize that GS stands for Gamespot, right ? Therefore, most if not all who post here are gamers.

My friend, its a sour reality, but gamers = losers in real life ......

My clock is ticking now for someone to flame me for saying that .......*yikes!* ..

But thats the reality...

I mean you can't blame a rally car driver saying " Stone up his @$$"

can you ?

...since he isn't from an English speaking country (ignore this bit if you haven't seen the video on youtube).

PEACE^^

English isn't my first language either. Like I said, there are innocent mistakes then there are "mistakes" that people make for no reason. I'm mainly ranting at the people who know better who are just lazy.

People can type however they want..its a FORUM not a CLASSROOM. Im not trying to impress anyone or show off how i can use apostrophes or spell everything correctly. Just like in eveything people are going to use shortcuts to make this simpler and faster. Its not a big deal if i use "i" instead of "I". You understand and get the gist of what im trying to say.

You also have to take into consideration that most of the people who troll this forum are between 8 and 12 years old so their grasp of the english language is very small. As for calling people who play video games losers the only thing that would make you more of a loser is to troll a video gaming website when you cant even afford a gaming rig. Really though only you controll your mouse so you have the option of not reading the posts.
