I have been getting power surges very often and i had the power company come by and check the powerlines and nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. So what else could it be? I have no idea and all the power surges have cause my computer to break. So i really need some help on finding whats wrong.

I think sometimes it happens as more people use electiricity at a specific time being. There may not be anything wrong with your electricity lines, but there is a limit on to how much power a "Power plant" can output.

I had a bad experience with a power surge once. I was working on a school project and I happened not to save my work. And that day was a particularly hot one. So I lost all my hard work. It wasn't a long paper, but whatever information there was of value. It's always best if you to press the save button while working.

This, plus the fact that I notice a power change when they switch over generators.

Hmm, Maybe your using too much electricity? Turn off lights, tvs, etc, that you don't need.

well, i found out what was happening. We are starting to have some brown outs because, don't know if anyone watches the news or weather channel, but down here in the south its hot as **** with some humidity making it even worse. So i guess ill just have to be careful with my computer and try not to leave it on alot of the time.

That wouldn't result in a power surge, that would be a brown out.

A line interrupting or in-line UPS will counter brown outs

Generally a power surge is to do with the electricity company themselves, its a large scale thing, it is not going to be anything in your home.

The strain on the power grids because of the heat sources lately have been overloading many power grids in the United States. Power companies are having a difficult time meeting demands and keeping the lights on. It isn't a power surge on your end but rather an almost nation wide power usage problem.

severe storms in our area was our cause..and if it wasnt that..the wind could have blown at a gentle 2mph and it would knock it out..our part of the town just loses power if you blink too fast..very srs.

I have surges in the summer some days. It's due to the power company moving power from one grid to another. They're small but reset clocks and stuff like that.

TC, do you have a surge protector for your computer? I think that could save it...
