Bliind-Guardian

That is Punk-Pop. Fall Out Boy and Panic at The Disco are almost as far away from punk as country or christian rock. Real Punk is The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks... Seriously, check out The Clash. You Can't listen to the songs London Calling or White Man (In the Hammersmith Palais) Without recognizing the fact that they are the best punk band and one of the best bands ever.

I've never been a fan of metal, though I'm sure I could find some that I like if I tried.

Anyway, it's definitely punk for me.

Metal wins in my books. The only punk band i like...and I like them alot.....are The Ramones. Most punk to me sounds slapped together and messy, but there are some songs thati think aregreat (F*** Authority by Pennywise). Plus, no punk guitarist is anywhere close to a metal guitarist when it comes to skill.

in my view its not really a fair contest. i myself am for metal, but i highly respect punk because certain genres of metal wouldnt be without punk influence( like black metal for example). either way though i cant stand it when people claim that metal all sounds the same. it doesnt, there are so many sub genres in metal that are all different. for example listen to motorhead, then rhapsody of fire and then mayhem, theres no way that they are even close to being called similar. but of course all genre's of metal take certain influence from another genre.

anyways after that rant, like i said im for metal but the reason is because being a musician myself i find punk to be basic(sadly i was in a punk band once...never again! :P) and metal to be very technical, i mean some metal can be basic as well, like you can say hair/80's metal is with its power chord riffs but if you compare the solo of the song to any punk solo, theres more creativity and more technicality.

well, they got some good and bad stuff like for example metal got the best drummers and guitarrists as i see it, and punk has killer singers (not for me though lolz i like the screaming!) and a cool look i guess, and well metal wouldnt be metal without a bit of punk...

Metal is a much, much wider variety of music than punk; and punk and metal sound almost nothing alike... I like metal, but I also do love ska-punk...

I don't like metal, not one bit. I can't say that I'm the biggest fan of punk either (meaning I like it ,but I don't listen to it all that much), but I do hold a special place in my heart for the Clash.

Erm....

He's right, loads of early Black Metal bands played extreme punk. I don't like Metal that much. It's okay. I'm not into the Sex Pistols, The Ramones and The Clash that much. Sex Pistols, completely generic, good band though, but they were too marketed. I don't consider them being a band after Glen Matlock left. The Clash moved into other directions leaving punk. DC82 Hardcore Scene was the best of punk. The Exploited, GBH, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, The Misfits were the best punk bands in my opinion. Pity punk is dead though, it is so funny how people say it is alive, hahahaha. If bands like Green Day and Fall Out Boy are considered punk then it is clearly dead.

I like both, but I like more metal. Theres so many genres and sub-genres its hard to say whats metal and whats punk, and whats metalcore, and doom metal, thrash, hardcore. I guess you canreally only list the bands you like.

I love awesome guitar solos and insane drumming..so I pick metal over punk anyday. I do like some punk bands though, and not exactly a fan of the singing in metal. Usually I just skip over to the guitar solo.

I wouldn't say Metal is dying. 2007 has been a pretty good year for Metal albums. Metal is more evolving than it is dying.

Loads of metal sucks.

The clash totally suck.

People who say punk is dead are way uninformed and need to take a look around their city.

Wow. The Clash are considered one of the most influential bands ever. The Clash do not totally suck. If you don't like the clash, what in god's name do you like? Christian Rock? Emo? Cause The Clash basically created ska, and were the first political punk band. If that sucks, then a lot of things suck, including you...

Oh, and Fall Out Boy and Green Day do not play punk. They play pop-punk. Major difference. I'm talking about Clash, Ramones, Dead Kennedys, NOFX, etc. Fall Out Boy is an insult to music....

Punk and Metal have subgenres and are both decades old. It's hard for me to form an opinion unless you're more specific.
