Putin humiliates Obama by refusing to take counter sanctions.

Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, initially suggested that Russia would respond in kind by ejecting 35 US diplomats in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Nevertheless, that idea was shot down by Putin, who has effectively chosen "not to dignify the measures taken against Russia with a response," said Michael Kofman, a global fellow at the Wilson Center who specializes in Russian and Eurasian affairs.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said the Kremlin "will not resort to irresponsible 'kitchen' diplomacy" in response to new US sanctions for Russia's suspected meddling in the US election process. "Although we have the right to retaliate, Russia would instead plan our further steps to restore Russian-US relations based on the policies of the Trump administration."

I was there as a young serviceman when it all happened. Besides the numbers games, we pretty much watched the Soviet Empire implode from within. Then, all of a sudden, we were friends with the Russkies and their aircraft were taking part in US airshows.

Aerospace America 1990. Will Rogers Int'l Airport. Oklahoma City where I volunteered as a parking attendant. Toured their aircraft and shook hands with their crews. A year prior, it would have been unthinkable to see Soviet aircraft on US soil. I was privileged to see one of the first ones.

Is this what we're considering humiliation right now, some tweets? Russia has been in bad shape since 2014 when oil prices plunged and they were hit with sanctions for supporting separatists in Ukraine and annexing Crimea. The ruble has tumbled, their markets have declines in double digit percentages, and they entered into a recession. But somehow Putin is 'owning' Obama? Putin has inflicted significant harm on the Russian economy and lively hood of the average citizen in his country.

Putin is only humiliating the average Russian citizen due to rampant crony capitalism and a foreign policy which has resulted in damaging international sanctions. It's amazing to to see people praise a leader who imperils his own people so frequently.

Leadership isn't about looking after the well being of your citizens, it's about yelling the loudest and carrying the biggest stick.

It's all marketing with Putin. Sell the man at the forefront, just ignore his track record as far as economics and human rights is concerned. People are fools.

We're talking about Berlin. What other major combatants sent armies to take Berlin beside the Soviets? The US advance stopped at the Elbe River. The British advance also stopped far short of Berlin. Both Western allies considered the Ruhr Valley more valuable real estate because that where all of Germany's industry were at. Berlin was largely symbolic and useless in their general strategy. Of course, the Soviets saw it differently because they had a score to settle. So, the Soviets got the honor of taking Berlin.

There were many US and British bomber raids on Berlin. But, all they did were come and go. Instead of convincing its residents to surrender, all the raids did was piss them off. You need boots on the ground to occupy the city and it was the Soviets who had them.
