Sooooo whats so deadly about 2012, is this just another scare like what happened in the 1999 - 2000 Transition with Technology? Or is there scientific evidence that the year 2012 will be the end of mankind?

If there was evidence, I am sure not even kayne west could have stolen that spotlight. 2012 is about something that no one knows about from a civilization that no one truely understands and/or why other than the calander they had ended on 2012, represented anything else.

It is alarmists who have misinterpreted an ancient Mayan myth. Nothing more.

There is not actually any scientific evidence, just stupid theories. The whole thing is based on the Mayan calendar, but people have just worked their theories around that. There are rumours about polar shifts, meteors, planet alignment, solar storms, super volcanic eruptions etc., but there's no evidence that if any of these things happen (which are highly unlikely) they will happen on 2012. And the media doesn't exactly help, any news article about "the end of the world" is going to get a lot of people interested, even if all the "evidence/2 is BS. There's really nothing to worry about, once 2012 is over, it will just so in the pile of unfulfilled doomsday prophecies, then we'll have 2015 or 2018 or 2023 or whatever to "fear".

whoever believes it is an idiot. the whole thing revolves around the Mayan calendar. on December 21, 2012, the Mayan calendar ends, which some lunatics mistakenly take as the end of the world. maybe they just ran out of numeric symbols to make dates with. nothing will happen.

This huge "1212" thing started with a small group of people who looked at the Mayan Calandar and decide that the sky is falling and cried wolf. Then this thing snowballed - picking up rumors and hearsay until it eventually became large enough for the mainstream public to notice.

The movie coming out looks like it will be a really fun one to watch though (effects wise) but thats probably the only thing that i will find entertaining out of the slight hysteria that will come about.

These theories always come about every so often didnt Notradamous day the world was gonna end on May 5th 1999?

Its all nonsense. Just another petty thing that the media can expand a thousand fold to get attention and make lots of money.

It's funny to see how people reacted to Y2K back in the days. Such idiots. Now another "doomsday" date. 12/21/2012. Give me a break. Look we're all gonna die, that's inevitable but the world coming to an end..... yeah, no. The world eventually coming to an end caused by us due to pollution & using limited resources. That's possible & true but probably isn't an exact date for that & probably won't happen in my lifetime.

The Mayans predicted 2012 will be the end of the world. I don't have the time to explain just how intelligent the Mayans were, but I will say their astronomy was just as advanced as it is today... if not more.

Some people, including myself, believe the Mayans worshipped aliens. But even if they didn't, just assuming that alone speaks highly of the Mayan's astrnonomical ability. If anyone is just a little bit interested in Astrnonomy, 2012, aliens or ancient civilisations, I suggest you take a look at the Mayans.

The History Channel has plenty about this....it is quite interesting and I cant wait to see how the major network media deals with it as the date approaches, which is somewhat predictable.

The Mayans predicted 2012 will be the end of the world.

Hoggerable

No... no they didn't. They predicted an astronomical event (the Sun crossing the galaxial equator) and the myth associated with said event was the beginning of a "new age." It is not the "end of the world" but the transition from one era to the next. It is sometimes referred to as a "great enlightenment."

And thinking the Mayan's can predict something like the end of the world and then not see their civilizations' downfall coming shortly after that prediction kind of ruins any credibility they might have.

It's a shame you don't have time to explain more about the Mayans, since I don't believe their astronomy was as advanced as ours is today.

There is going to be a UNIX time overflow crisis in 2035, based on the date word length format. Potentially, there is a far greater risk to computer systems in 2035 then than there was for the millenium bug.
