I have a strange and possibly dumb question about the internet. Would it be possible for the entire internet to be erased, like through a glitch or possibly a hacker? I guess my real question is where and in what way is the internet stored? And one more question, a hypothetical one. If the entire internet were to be erased instantaneously, what effect, if any, do you think it would have on society, or even the world as a whole?narf101I DONT KNOW!!!!!!!!!
The internet is not stored on any one computer. It's a giaaaaaaant network. A little bit on this computer, a little bit on that computer... and they are all connected together. What you are doing is using a network to access content on someone else's computer, really. There are two things to do: erase the actual information/data, or kill access to that date. I guess if all data on all computers was somehow erased, that would certainly kill it. You could also destroy connections to the internet, but the content would still be there on the original computers. Did that help?AnkaaraAre you saying the entirety of the internet operates on a single network, meaning in other words, it's all linked together? If that were the case wouldn't it be possible for someone to create a virus that could effect every computer connected to the internet?
damn you beat me to it.You see the internets are like a series of tubes. If too much stuff gets sent through the tubes then it will get clogged up and could explode as a result.
*hopes that people realize I was joking above*
