The other day I didnt completely stop at a stop sign because there were no other cars in sight and as luck would have it, I got pulled over by a cop. Now I got a ticket. What will happen? This is my first ticket by the way so I don't think anything will happen. Will I have to pay up money no matter what?

Damn cops I swear sometimes it feels like they just want to ruin my day.

You'll get mailed the ticket and you pay it. You don't go to court unless you want to fight it. Also be sure to take online drivers ed to clear your record.

So I'm getting nailed no matter what? Or is there a chance I will be mailed a warning?

Yes. If you didn't sign a warning slip, you are getting a ticket. And if you go to court, the state of California is bankrupt, you won't win, and you'll owe court and lawyer fees too.

They will send you a ticket and you will have to pay it. You won't have to go to court unless you want to fight it which you probably don't. They will also likely give you an extension on payment date if you can't come up with the money in time.

That kind of interests me. Since the state is bankrupt it wins all cases concerning it even if it's in the wrong?

In this case it doesn't seem in the wrong but I don't like this wide brush that a cop pulls you over for nothing, tickets you for basically nothing, and you have no chance of winning a court case because they need the money.

Edit: And how much is the ticket anyway? I can't imagine it being so much that you want to waste time and money going to court over it.

If you dont want to pay anything (cuz the fine im pretty sure you will get will be pretty much ridiculous) Go to court and ask the judge for Community service. She should give you a list of places you can go! Mind you still will be fines but alot less than what there asking! If you go in the morning make sure you go early because there is usually a line and they only take like the first 50 people to see the judge! Hope that helps :)

No not if it's wrong but there is no proof that the ticket is wrong. His word vs. the Cops = lose. And yes it's almost impossible to get out of basic driving infractions right now. Even if he did, which he won't, he will still have to pay the lawyer and court fees which are more than the ticket.

The police car has video camera caught him for not stoping. Like if he can get away with it.

The Car would only film the incident if the car was facing his. I've gotten several tickets from cops who have the car parked elsewhere and they are standing on a corner waiting.

Well, TC did say in his opening post that he didn't stop, so fighting it would be pretty questionable anyway

I see. Anyway, I don't try to get with violations myself, so doesn't matter for me in the end.

It's almost gotten to the point where you can't drive here anymore without getting ticketed. The financial situation is so bad here in San Diego that there are cops/speed traps set up on every corner and every hill most days.

Actually, if you have the ticket with you - you can just go to the website and put the citation number in (give it a few days for it to show up - sometimes it takes up to 20 days) and you can just pay everything online.

At some states the cops have credit card machines so you can (and in some states have to) pay right there on the spot. I wish Kali would adopt that.

Hummm..... dum dum didn't stop = caught. Duh duh duh. You don't have to go to court unless the ticket said you have to. And ask us? I am sure your parents has plenty of experience.magicalclick
Okay don't call me dumb because it'll happen to you someday. I don't live with my parents so I can't just ask them and I don't need you to tell me there's no way I can't get out of it. I already know I'm screwed. The cop was away for his bike too so it wasn't recorded but it doesn't matter since whatever he says is considered the truth. Why don't you just get out of this thread?

That'd be nice but not if you HAVE to right there. Not unless the state is assuming everyone has a credit card and also takes on any overcharge fee's. You should always have an amount of time to pay (and possibly extension as well) especially for certain tickets which can cost upwards of 500$. And that's not chump change.

But yeah how much was the OP's ticket? I've never gotten a ticket for such so I'm really curious if his ticket is so much that it'd be worth fighting over. Maybe if it's an aforementioned 500+ ticket.

I was going to mention that. It will give you the option (being it your first violation and all) to take drivers ed. Do it online. Its easier and not that I advocate cheating - but you can. :| And dang walking around with a credit card machine? lol.

He hasn't received it yet but it will be around $250. That's what mine was for the same thing. The only difference is I saw the cop ahead of time, made sure to stop and he still gave me a ticket after suggesting I stole the car.

Well the thing is the ticket doesn't have an amount. It's a notice to appear in court and it has a date on it but the cop also said I would get something in the mail which I assume to be the actual ticket.

I actually was able to get out of that ticket because the cop was too stupid to write the correct street name down. I wrote a letter to the juge (which is the first step befor going to court if you choose to do that) and the cop failed to respond back to my claim of wrong doing.

Yeah similar situation happened to a friend of mine. Dumb cop wrote down xx/xx/09 instead of xx/xx/10 for the date and got out of it. Lucky.

A stop sign means "stop", and you're suppose to stop for a full two seconds. Not a rolling stop, a full stop, even if you can see a million miles in all directions. Turning right on a red has the same rules, you treat it as a stop sign.

The reason you have to stop even if you can see is because a lot of motorists only look for cars and don't see people walking or on bikes when they just glance.

 You got pulled for a California Roll? I can not believe that. I have never heard of a cop stopping someone for that - Hell, I frequently do it in front of police and I have never once had an issue. Now, if you just blew through the stop sign I can see why you got the ticket, but not for a California Roll.

I completely agree but I was in a place that was totally deserted. Trust me I don't drive like a maniac. The cop knew that no one stops there. Easy tickets. Funny how I see them there but not at schools where there are kids crossing streets and people are going at 60 mph.

If there's a stop-sign in the middle of a one-way street in the middle of a desert with no other roads or people around...stop. It's a stop sign.

[QUOTE="clayron"] You got pulled for a California Roll? I can not believe that. I have never heard of a cop stopping someone for that - Hell, I frequently do it in front of police and I have never once had an issue. Now, if you just blew through the stop sign I can see why you got the ticket, but not for a California Roll.thisguy51
Watch out man. They getcha even for the rolls now.

They get for you everything in this state now. It's almost become a police state.

Good luck doing that here. Stop light cameras at damn near every intersection. Of course, I support such measures (people need to learn how to drive, I swear).

Nah I'd rather not. That/s just unnecessary.
