How many of you have read a "Holy book" like the Bible or the Qur'an? And if so, what do you think about ti?? Again, this is not a debate about god, but about the actual book.

I can say that I have already read the bible. Nice read, some chapters are incredibly boring and some are fun. I find hard to believe a lot of things that there are (snakes and pigs talking?? Humanity comes from two people and there are no genetic defects??). I like some teachings and morals about it, but not every one is one I share. I find that several point of views change depending on the time period, and the book of revelations was a little bit more understandable if I were on LSD.

Psalms are extremely boring. It is like bad poetry. I wish I could get a free copy of the Qur'an and the Mormon's Holy book.

I did not read all of it.

What I did read, I didn't like.

Would not recommend.

First I would like to state I am not an atheist but I think in the eyes of most Christians I may as well be so I'll answer anyway. I've read the Bible and while it's got some pretty good lessons on life and some interesting stories I feel it's too outdated to base your entire life upon these days. The book it self is kind of boring sometimes though and I fell as if it's not always consistent with it's self when it comes to teachings but in general I would say it's certainly not a bad book to base a religion off of.

The Bible has a lot of questional material, morals, and storys. Can still be an interesting read if you like history or religion.

I havent read all of the Bible.

I am sure knowing what it is about and what it says influences my opinion about it as a literary work but I still believe that it trully is a bad;ly written book with little interest to it and my bias only magnifies that impression.

I much prefer the Silmarillion.

never read the whole thing from beginning to end but read much out of it (spent years in Catholic school, went to Bible camp for 3 years), anyhow, don't believe in it but it's not the Bible that's a load of bull as much as the people that use it rely on its dated text to address contemporary issues

I attended a Presbyterian school from grades 2-6. Over the course of 4 years, we had daily classes where we read the entire Bible, so yeah, I've read that one. Revelations was always totally cool, but honestly, not much of it made an impression, especially wide swaths of the OT.

I've read some parts of the bible, mainly Genesis and the New Testament, though I'm also fairly familiar with the details of Exodus (seriously, who isn't?).

As far as I can tell, Genesis is just a bunch of nonsense when taken literally, and a series of really bad metaphors and analogies designed to make you feel guilty of being human when taken figuratively; either way, it sucks, and as many people have pointed out throughout the ages, the OT God is a douche.

As for the New Testament, my only conclusions are that Jesus was a pretty cool guy until he decided to commit suicide, so it's a shame his "Church" turned out to be a bunch of asses (I'm talking priests and higher, no offense to any ordinary believers), and whoever wrote Revelation was either high or suffered from some serious personality disorders.

In my junior year in high school, I wanted to take my Christian faith seriously, so I decided to read the Bible. As it turns out, it didn't fit in with my views on evolution nor did it fit in with my views on morality, so I abandoned Christianity.

I've read the basic bible twice. The children one and then the adult version. Both are incredibly boring in my opinion, and I like to read. I don't believe that it is "God's word" but just some psycho who heard voices in his head who he claims is God.

I was raised strictly Christian but I find the entire story of the bible to be a croc. In my eyes, so many things are claimed to be sins, it makes me think that if God were to exist, he would just be a puppeteer playing with us for fun.

Went to Church and Sunday School every Sunday until I was 16 or 17. Catholic until I was in 3rd grade, then Presbyterian. Went to CCD and all the confirmation classes. I think I have the unique perspective of getting the full Christian upbringing while being a 100% atheist from a very early age (5). When I learned that Santa wasn't real, Jesus, God and the whole cast of characters went with him, but my parents forced me to do the whole Church thing. I kept my mouth shut and just dealt with it.

The Bible is sort of like Shakespeare; when I read it, I have no idea what any of it means and the teacher just tells us what the right answers are anyway (seems like that for all the literature we were subjected to in school). I was always looking for something in it that would turn on the belief switch, because I hated being subject to a decade-plus long course in Christianity and all the awkward fake praying and stuff that went along with it. But there is nothing in there at all that leads me to think Christianity is anything but a good story.

I learned about what was in the bible aswell as somewhat of what was in the Quran, also about the other religions in the world, in school as we back then had something called "Religion class" And no it wasn't catholic school, it was ordinary public school.

read simple versions of them when i was a kid. What a load of old rubbish. Completely dated, sexist, mindless... it's not even an enjoyable fairy-tail read. It's just pointless

?

curono

Not sure about the Qur'an, but you can get a free copy of the Book of Mormon here:

http://www.mormon.org/free-book-of-mormon/

I'm not an Atheist, but I'll answer anyway.

As far the Bible is concerned, I never read the Bible until I was in my twenties. I never went to Church growing up, so I wasn't raised in any faith or anything. I decided to become a Christian later in life and started reading the Bible. I absolutely love it! I get something new out of it every time I read it. I also love the Book of Mormon and have read both multiple times. Not sure how many. I have been reading the scriptures every night for the past 20 or so years.

I've read some of the Bible. I went to two Christian churches in my youth (my mom's Lutheran church, my dad's Catholic church), and I had to read parts of the Bible for Sunday school, Communion, and Confirmation. I also have read some of the Bible out of my own curiosity and on my own time, both as a child and more recently.

When I was 14-15, I read a lot of the Torah and the Talmud. I was very interested in Judaism and wanted to convert at some point. I no longer wish to, but I still find it interesting.

I have read very little of the Quran, but I have read some.

I find religion interesting. None of those books really did much for me, but I still found it a bit interesting. I'm comfortable in my own atheism, however.

I was raised Catholic and was taught a very interpretive view of the Bible, and there's certainly some good stuff that you can learn from Jesus' teachings. But it seems like way too many Christians either ignore those teachings, or concentrate on the really negative stuff (Old Testament, Revelations).

Well I was raised Christian and confirmed, I've had to read large chunks of the bible. Terribly written and overly preachy. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, for every good lesson taught it preaches 10 horrific things.

im a Christian...but I will still ask the question...I have not read THE WHOLE bible...hardly a 30% if you ask me...but what i've read its good...I was doing a daily reading like 1 year ago but I stopped when I reached the numbers chapter...it turn me down to see such big numerologies there...I stopped reading (although the numbers chapter was not the main reason for it) and now I rarely read it...I admit I should do it more often though. but still, what i've read has been very good, it teaches some great morals, but not only morals...it also provides plenty of advices to live your life peacefully. btw, correct me if im wrong but isnt the mormon's holy book the same as the bible?

I've read certain parts of it, but definitely not the whole thing.

The book is a giant fairy tale filled with fables. Nothing more.

I can almost guarantee that no one on this board has actually read the bible. You may have read one english interpretation and translation of the bible but unless you can read hebrew, greek, and aramaic you have not read the bible. It's not the same thing. I've heard greek and hebrew scholars translate the bible in ways that make many passages have completely different meanings.

I thought Harry Potter was better, but tbh I cannot read the bible – it evokes memories my dank old local church filled with mothball smelling 80+ year olds sitting around, mumbling into hymn books waiting to die.

Out of curiosity I've read the Torah, Bible, and the Quran. I find them all too ridiculous to believe in, but I read about this one tale in the Torah about these people eating their own excrement. They weren't boring reads. It's just not something that I would believe really happened.

Not. At. All. There is all of this craziness about some guy in the US who found some golden tablets that only he could read and something about jesus visiting indians. Something about multiple heavens and multiple worlds with multiple gods and if you reach the highest level of heaven you become a god.
