I've been a 1 pack per day smoker for about 5 years now, I started when I joined the Marines. Lately my health has been so crappy I decided to stop.

So far,its been14 hours without a smoke. I've gone through 1 nicotine patch, 3 Monsters and half a bag of sunflower seeds.

Man this sucks.

Any advice?

the patch is the best option so far, you should try herbal cigarette which taste like crap and contain no nicotine ( at least thats a good thing)

You may not succeed on the first try, but what's to stop you from trying again.

I can't imagine being dependent on something so much that i would feel the need to get in my car, pay money for petrol then pay money for cigarettes just for a smoke. I just can't imagine it not being easy to stop doing something like that easily

Find a replacement addiction. Sunflower seeds seem to be working for you. Maybe something like chocolate? I know a few people who went from smokers to chocoholics.

I wish you good luck man. My dad is an alchoholic and was addicted to smoking but quit both about 18-25 years ago and since addiction runs in family I'm not touching either. It'll be hell but once you've broken the addiction you should feel a ton better (you'll also lose weight most likely which is good to)

Quit thinking about it. Go out and do something. If you just sit around thinking about how miserable you are because you aren't smoking, you will be smoking again before you know it.

Exactly, that's why its difficult right now cuz I'm at work & I used to go smoke whenever I wanted to escape the office. Probably explains why I've been on Gamespot all day!

Same story here with my mom she's been smoking for 30 years. Butshe has cut back though. She used to smoke 2 packs a day, now she's down to 1. You know I calculated how much money she spent on smokes over the years and the figures are insane:

Cigarettes: $3.25 perpack times 2 packs a day = $6.50

$6.50 per day times 365 days = $2372.50 per year

$2372.50 per year times 30 years = $71,175.00.

Frightening isn't it? Almost 72 grand up in smoke:o

My advice is to go back in time and stop yourself from ever smoking.

I mean is it really that hard not to smoke! Do people just come up and make fun of you if you don't smoke?

Yeah, try adjusting your frame of mind. Ignorance is bliss for so many, but try to view life while *thinking* at the same time. You may just discover your "smoking" problem is an amusing facet of your past.

Stay strong and try to keep busy is probably the best way, don't give your mind time to think about it Especially doing things to keep your hands busy. It's hard, but with each day you are that much closer.

I don't think you can do it right away. It took me to smoke smaller amounts per day then per week then per month and then per 2-3 months and then finally one day I quit. Good luck it's hard but it can be done, I have been off for one year now.

Good for you. I quit 7 years ago. Woah! Its been some time I guess. Quiting smoking is like having the will power to smack a puppy. Its so darn cute, you just want to keep petting it, but sooner or later its going to piss on your couch and chew up your shoes. Good luck.

Good luck, dude. Quitting something via the cold turkey method is always difficult.

Your lungs will thank you in the end though - methinks. ;)
