I'm doing pretty good, I've gone all day without one...Minor withdrawl effects such as aggrevation, and one incident where I snapped at my mom for like 10 seconds. How long do you think it will take of no smoking to be considered to have quit? What are some tips/techniques I can use to help me quit without going insane?

Apparently after the first five days it gets easier, but I wouldn't know personally. I didn't fancy starting such an intelligent hobby...

lol Yeah I know, it's quite moronic to pick up smoking...But I have only been doing it for about a year, I think my lungs can filter out my alveoli without much trouble...Shouldn't be any permanent damage.

I've never touched a cigarette in all 22 1/2 years of my life. I never saw the appeal. I wouldn't know the first thing about trying to quit, other than focusing on the fact that you will be more socially stable when you don't have to depend on a cigarette for relaxation, you will be more attractive to women who don't smoke...proven fact (and they are usually cuter), and you will reduce your risk of getting many different cancers. Also, if you've been doing it for a while, it's a safe bet to say you're not going to be able to just quit.....you have to gradually reduce how many you smoke everyday.

Or maybe you could have somebody handcuff you to something, so you can't get to your cigarettes...

They say you know you've quit when you can't remember how long it's been since you had one... Also cold turkey is usually the best way I hear.

When my friend's dad quit, everytime he had a craving for a cigg, he would eat a tootsie pop. It helps him a lot, hes been smoke free for about 2 years, and was smoking for 10, soo..

Eat lolipops and candy, instead like some people mentioned above. Hopefully you won't get fat.

When my boss was quitting, he had this weird plastic thing he'd chew.... I think it does help to have something in your hands/mouth to replace the cigarettes.

I've also been told cold turkey is the best way to go.

I don't really know though, having never smoked before. Mainly, I just wanted to wish you good luck in quitting ^_^

just stop buying smokes. when you get the urge, just don't go buy smokes. you'll likely end up with quitter's flu, which could land you in bed for about a week or two. it's all about willpower. i quit cold turkey about a month ago, i got sick as hell, but think of the cancer you'll save!

Meditation and find some hobbies to take up your time, then slowly smoke less and less. Go to therapy if necessary.

Since I don't smoke, not really. But don't try to think about them. It takes awhile to really "quit", and quitters sometimes smoke again.

I'd also suggest something like gum, or maybe sunflower seeds. Maybe something like beef jerky, for your teeth to grind on. Then you wouldn't really feel like only a cigarette in your mouth.

Try the old cold turkey-locked in a room plan. That could work.

just be strong willed and dont give in to the craving, and soon your body will no longer need the Nicotine, I have quit now for 5 years now and sometimes I still crave nicotine just remember that the craving will go away, thats what I do

Eh, just keep trying to quit cold turky, (ug, I hate that term) you could eventualy just resist the urge and never feel the need to do it. It often takes something to shock you and realise how bad something is before you really do quit. Maybe that can help give some ideas.

I smoked for three years. I quit by exercising (sweating) and drinking lots of water. It was actually kind of  easy.
