just some crazy idea my friend and I had...we wanted to make a list of high risk jobs that should actually be almost risk free...

see, some time ago, we had saw somewhere that a study apparently shown that physicist (sorry if misspelled) were more prone to suffering strokes or stuff like that, and that some psychiatrist/psychologist eventually go crazy for working a lot with crazy people, thats why they need to visit OTHER psychiatrist to get evaluated at least 3 times a year.

oh and it turns out that dentist have the highest suicide rates of all the doctors.

so anyone knows something else to add to the list??? I know its really short now but its a start :P

I dont have any idea...I really dont see how can they be at the 1st place on the suicide rate...I would expect something like a trauma surgeon or an ER doctor...but a dentist?

I mean, you'd really think that it would be doctors who deal with more death.

Gambling with large amounts of money is risky sure, but I think the risk is if you earn a lot of money and proceed to spank it all, then find out you've got 'x' number of houses and can't afford the mortgages when the market crashes. No sympathy for the frivolous from me...

Well that. Lack of job security due to competition and the economic climate. Federal regulation. Personal/ Professional Reputation. 80-100 hr work weeks - these are apparently very, very common. Lack of social life. Dealing with billions upon billions of dollars. Things like that.

I thought that the thing they use to cover their mouth blocks their sense of smelling

Police Officers. Besides the physical harm many cops get divorced, become suicidal, or suffer from depression.

I'm guessing quite a few dentists started out as pre-meds and are unhappy with their lives?

As I mentioned before, if an individual is working 100+ hours per week in a volatile market (which it always has been), yet proceed to spank their annual 6 or 7 figure bonuses, then I've no sympathy with them when the market crashes. Earn that money and live a comparatively frugal life and they would have been fine during harder times, potentially setting themselves up for life in a small number of years. No sympathy for someone having to sell their Ferrari 'to get by'

No one asked for your sympathy. I was simply answering the TC's question.

I was just pointing out its risky if you don't manage your own finances and account for the inevitable downturn....

I don't get it either.. People say they fear the dentist.. But now? I can see it possible like 30 years ago.. But they have gas and other painless things that makes you unaware of any pain happening.
