IGN's review score: 10 out of 10 http://dvd.ign.com/articles/830/830933p1.html

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108872/

The influence of My So-Called Life on pop-culture is irrefutable. Regardless of such a mammoth cult following, acclaimed reviews, and multiple awards, the fascination stems from addressing and pioneering hot button problems in society. Without its presence, the mounds of imitators could not have copied many of its ideas, and failed in doing so. The list is endless. A more magical show cannot be found anywhere on high school traumas'. All the proper ingredients fell into place, and a gem was born that the masses could easily identify with.

I say Yes.....by far

If anyone wants to know what its like being an American high-school kid in the mid-90's this clas*ic show is spot-on. It still applies to today. Great 90's music throughout as well.

The show should be watched by all or most teens 14 or older. It's that good!

The springboard for Claire Danes and Jared Leto was cancelled way too early, partially because Claire wanted to move on to movies.

I urge most of you to check out all 19 episodes, great stuff.

I've never seen this before. It looks like the classic ones from the 80s and 90s that seem to hive long since gone. I may check it out.

It totally captured the teen sense that everything is an urgent, earth-shattering crisis. Claire Danes was also terribly cute and played teen earnestness super well.

Exactly, the show was monumental, gripping and deep, left no holds barred.

Its influence was huge, yet it hasn't been topped IMO.

Even just one more season would have made me happy...................it has a HUGE cult following now. The show ran in the mid-90's, I think 1994.

19 episodes, an hour each.

Wait til after you see this show before making judgement, you may very well change your mind.

It was an absolute tragedy (that the network now greatly regrets) that this show was cancelled early, but I don't think Claire Daines could be replaced anyway.

I'm going to have to go with this (and not (solely) because of Danica McKellar, even though she's awesome).

Then you have not seen "My so-called Life", because it hits home on what high-school in America is really about, no stupid glory stuff, just real.

This show absolutely nails the teen experience in the mid 90's, which other than fashion and lack of cel-phones is not much different than now.

This show was miles ahead of most any "teen drama series"

I also loved "Freaks and Geeks" another show cut short way before its time.

I've never seen My So-Called Life but really enjoyed Freaks and Geeks so I'll have to check it out. PerfectCircles

There are definite differences though:

Freaks and Geeks takes place in the early 80's and has more comedy moments, but we both know it can be deadly serious as well.

My So-Called Life takes place at present time (1994, just a year before Windows '95 and the PC explosion, and a half-dozen years before cel-phones would be mainstream) and is almost disturbingly real when it comes to the high-school experience.

Both shows have great soundtracks, great acting, and the pieces fell together just right. My So-Called Life had the greater impact on future TV shows, but Freaks and Geeks launched the careers of a good many actors, including Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Linda Cardellini

Which one is better? Well, depends on the day you ask......its that close for me.

You really should get "My So-Called Life"......its time to pass the great show over to the next generation of teens, not only 1 of the best teen dramas, but 1 of the best TV shows ever.

It has a HUGE cult following, and as I've said everyone from 14 (high school) and up should see it.

A perfect slice of mid-90's (1994) teen experience in U.S. caught in time (just before PC's and cel-phones exploded onto the scene).

There are no weak episodes and it holds up today just fine.

If it is only one season like with Freaks and Geeks, it should be fine. I won't watch 115 episodes of The Wonder Years when they are 40 minutes a piece, however.

Bi? nevermind, none of my business.

Yeah always liked Claire Danes back in the day, but I liked the gal that played Rayanne even better.
