one is alright, its not a bad song, but if you really want to impress with a moretechnical and complexsong, id reccomend going with this.

Guy wants to overthrow an evil wizard using 5 certain magics and it's based off of a book.

Not much of an analysis.

EDIT: sory i didnt see that it was a lyrical analysis

for lyrical analysisdo "hook in mouth" its about the PMRC and about history writers erasing what they dont want people to know, so you can talk about cencorship and the pmrc trying to get rid of music with lyrics they didnt like, a lot of back story.

If you want to slightly disturb your audience talk about Blackest Eyes or Gravity Eyelids by Porcupine Tree and the underlying theme of sexual abuse. With lines like "It's so erotic when your make up runs", Let the salt flow, feel my coil unwind", "slipping hands down past your waist to find" and "Walk in the woods and I will try something under the trees that made you cry" it's bound to get a reaction.

Considering he mentioned "about a WWI veteran who gets injured", I'd assume lyrical.

ooh, a bttr war song - megadeth's take no prisoners, about how the government and army leaders tell the soldiers to show no mercy and do their best at war, but if someone gets injured or dies , no one cares. " dont ask what you can do for your country , ask what your country can do for you"

I have a project in College whereyou choose a song, analyze it, and then play it during class.

I am the biggest TOOL fan you will ever know, but the song I would do "Schism",is too complex towrite about, so I was thinking of going with "One", by Metallica since the song is clear cut about a WWI veteran who gets injured.

And everyone else in my class chose really really really really really bad songs, and it's hard to sit and listen to them, that's also why I'm choose "One".

We had to do that for History of rock class (part of the pre-requisite for a A.A) And it was very fun. You should do Tool because the more insightful a song is the better the presentation and essay. (although schism isnt all that complicating)

I chose two songs, All is Full of love by Bjork and Quiet by The Smashing Pumpkins. It was a lot of fun.

yeah but take no prisoners will blow your class away, everyone has heard metallica and their mainstream song one, but if you play TNP loud, the riffs will kill everyone , and probly only a few kids in your class will have ever heard TNP. and cmon the ending is jst amazing " TAKE NO PRISONERS... TAKE NO .. SH!@" instead of " hold my breath inside.. whisper... ... oh god plz help me"

Schism is very complicated, you think it's about a love relationship, but it's really about the famoussplit inChristianity during 11th century. And I'm Jewish, so I have no idea

Well I can understand it being more advanced (the song does use a lot of advance techniques, ill give it that) However, If I where to explain the song, I would have a bigger time explaining the articulation behind it, instrumentals and all, rahter than the context of insightful lyrics.

Sounds like a good choice to me. The song doesn't take on a political standpoint like the book does, but Hetfeild is really good with metaphors.

I've tried to analyze Tool songs before, and found them to be far too abstract and heavily layered to write a good paper on.

Allthough you'd have to have read Animal Farm to truly understand what they're on about.

Not that I would be opposed to that recommendation as well. :P

the book the song is about is called "Johnny Got His Gun" by Dalton Trumbo.

It is an excellent, quick read and one of the greatest antiwar novels I have ever read. The way the character is thrust into the war, and the suffering he goes through, is simply terrible.

tbh I dont think you could have picked a better, easiermodern song to analyze. You got a song with clear lyrics, an excellent book, and a movie. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy!

How so? Justice, being their most progressive album, takes a while to used to. You may not enjoy it, but it definitely doesn't "SUX!"

Because it was Justice that led them to become MTV Darlings and care more about their image than their music. They lost that 'garage edge' with Justice and became corporate darlings.

Edit: Oh yeah, and Cliff Burton.

Far from it. The three previous albums were raw and at times sounded barely rehearsed. Justice was...I guess 'overproduced' is the word.

Difficult for them to play live. There was only two songs off Justice that they played live throughout the 90's. I think "over progressive" is a better way to put it, because the production was actually very bad. The songs were just too long, and had a bunch of instrumental segues and huge changes in tempo. It just didn't work, for me anyway.
