[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"] I hate when people bash Nicholas Cage. The man can act if he's directed well. Matchstick Men, Adaptation, and Leaving Las Vegas are good examples of this. He just accepts pretty much any script that is thrown at him.MrGeezer
Which is why I think he's a hack and a complete idiot. He's obviously talented but if he's dumb enough to do whatever movie that comes his way then he deserves whatever scolding he gets.
Other actors do the same thing. Samuel Jackson is NOTORIOUS for accepting pretty much every role that is thrown at him. Same with Anthony Hopkins. That doesn't automatically make Pulp Fiction or The Silence Of The Lambs "complete ass".
And it's the EXACT same thing with Nicholas Cage.
Yeah, Nicholas Cage is NOT the most discriminating actor. And yeah, he's often been pretty damn bad. But he's also been pretty freaking good, and it is just completely ignorant to say that every movie he's been in has been complete ass.
Furthermore, from the reviews I've been seeing of this movie, most reviewers seem to be saying that Cage himself wasn't much of a weak link. Most people seem to be saying that Cage did just fine, but that the problem seemed to be with the direction and script. And if that's the case, it's pretty ridiculous to pin THAT on Nicholas Cage since he was neither the director nor the screenwriter.
I agree, Cage was good in this movie. The movie itself let me down, but I felt Cage played his role fairly well.
