I don't exactly know a word to describe it, so I'll go ahead and say uncommon.

The question is, is there any non-mainstream music that you enjoy? (I.e. anything you don't hear on the radio or TV)

I've been really enjoying steel lap guitar lately (blues), check this out.

So if you will, share with us your "not-so-common" music, and if you could, provide a link ;).

The Primrose League are an unsigned one man band. I listen to him a fair bit. Here's a song off his first album. Influenced a lot by the Beatles and The Smiths.

Enter Shikari; I never hear them on the radio or anything. Here is their song, Sorry You're Not a Winner. It's trance-thrash or whatever.

Well if you define uncommon music by its absence on the mainstream radio, I wouldn't say I really listen to anything that could be considered "common" :P

If we're talking about music that is sonically uncommon though, that narrows it down a bit. I'm starting to get into Xiu Xiu, and I also like noise-rock bands like Teenage Jesus & the Jerks, Swans and Sonic Youth (SY are pretty popular though). St. Vincent's particular brand of pop music is also wonderful, and I'm a sucker for depressing acoustic pop like El Perro Del Mar, Loney Dear or Anna Ternheim.

EDIT: Updated with links! :D

Very little of the music I listen to is on the radio, but I think that says more about the lack of good stations around here than anything else.

breakcore intertwining with powernoise, sporting adash of experimental electronica.

from the slow songs to the fast songs, and anything inbetween; it occupies me.

I listen to a lot of little known punk and alternative music. Post-hardcore is not very common where I live so in a way that counts. I also listen to the occasional powerviolence band.

Right now I'm really into Bumblefoot's solo and older material. Some examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVqSqLyV0Kk (amazing solo, great song overall)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1GlBVIAOH8 (a sort of musical satire, mocking both the blues-obsessed and the notes-per-second whores)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX_RMNxAUG0 (tasty fretless guitar, really cool)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEOFMHgkHzI (the token EPIC song)

I suppose most of the metal sub-genres are uncommon. Lately I've been digging Korpiklaani; a folk metal band.

A lot of my music is on the radio but that's because we have this awesome radio station that plays lots of metal and non-mainstream rock.

No name metal band by the name of Axe. They produced my second favorite album of all time (Offering) as well as some other good stuff. I also enjoy Benny Mardones, some may recognize him from his one hit wonder, Into the Night, but his other stuff is really good (but most is pretty easy listening)

I listen to anything that metaphorically presses the 'like' button in my mind. So I guess there is a possibility of it being uncommon.

Yeah, I love ska! I don't know what to classify as "common" or "uncommon." I'm sure whatever I'd classify as "uncommon," someone would reply to me and tell me that I'm wrong.

Most of the stuff I listen to isn't on the mainstream radios or television shows. If anything uncommon for me is the opposite, and if we go down that road than the answer would be the likes of Lady GaGa and Scissor Sisters.

I like alot of ambient and electronic music that wouldn't be played on the radio much. Plus I enjoy listening to anime soundtracks from time to time as well. Here's a couple of songs I like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P91GI5ysPSc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oasfi6EDhqg

Pretty much most of the bands I listen to...

But some well known bands you might hear on the radio, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc.

Though theres a station on the border that plays underground and well known Metal so thats pretty much the station that I leave it on when going for a cruise. 8)
