Racial segregation

I know I've made more than a few race-related threads and comments but it provides overall good discussion.

Anyway, what's your opinion on racial segregation? I'm ambivalent about it. People usually want to live around others that look like them. For example, whites usually group with other whites and blacks group with other blacks. It's somewhat human nature.

However, it is possible for racial harmony to exist without much tension. I think racial integration should be embraced a little bit more as racial segregation is so 1960's.:P

Birmingham, Alabama is a perfect example of racial segregation. According to the Census Bureau, non-Hispanic whites make up 21.0% of Birmingham's population while non-Hispanic blacks make up 74.6% of the city's population. Hispanics and Latinos make up 2.6% and Asians make up a mere 0.9% of the population.

Here's where it gets really segregated. According to SchoolMatters.com, white students make up a mere 1.2% of Birmingham's school district while black students make up the overwhelming majority (96.8%) of the school district. Here's an even scarier part. Hispanic students make up 1.8% of the school district's student body; higher than the percentage of white students. Yet whites make up 21.0% of Birmingham's population while Hispanics make up only 2.6% of the populace. Asian students make up 0.2% of the school district's student body...Good Lord. I'd hate to be Asian in that district.

Yeah, it's really messed up despite wanting to be around your own race is somewhat in the nature of humans.

Anyway, what's your opinion on racial segregation?

Racial Segregation is very bad I dont like it, I think if it was still enforced then I wouldn't be friends with most of my friends, and that wouldn't be good, so basically my opinion on it is, it shouldn't even have existed to begin with.

Thats why chicago did not get the Olympicsbecause of racial segeration. The south side of chicago all black .. Thats why they didnt go to chicago because of segeration.

There is a school in my school district with litterally no white students and 2 hispanic students and the rest are black. It's like that because the school isin an areaof town where the population is approximately 98% black. The highschool that I went too was highly integrated. 55% black 40% white and 5% other (there are very few hispanics and asians in my home town) because the school lies in a part of town that is close to areas with both white and black populations.It's not segregation so much as it is location of the school.

Skin color shouldn't influence who you want to hang out with. I think society needs to learn how to be able to live with other races and be able to form relationships of brotherly love, no matter the race.

Segregation is just dumb.:P

segeration is natural, but we shouldn't force it if you don't want to do it, you don't have to, if you do go ahead

Na, not by law but if people want to live with their own race, then they can.

i tell you what they need to get rid of. Species segregation. Its unfair that a squirrel can roam the streets but if it were a lion, it would probably be shot or taken far away. Completely unfair.

I am notiing more and more people don't are about race and socially class. But it seems fads/trends seperate people more then ever.
