Is there much racism in Canada other than the other countries?

he might be looking to take a holiday there and wants to know if he is likely to be attacked. i think its perfectly normal to do this, especially when your well being is at stake.play_thegame:lol: Likely to be attacked? This is Canada we're talking about. Not the third world.
[QUOTE="NerubianWeaver"]Polar bears and flocks of Meese do not discriminate based on race. They attack anyone. Is there much racism in Canada other than the other countries?

[QUOTE="quebec946"]Quebecois aren't Canadian anymore? Well they claim they are not Canadian all the time.there language racism in canada between canadians and quebecois
megagene
Both english-speaking people and french-speaking people from Canada are Canadian. :? There's some tension between speakers of both languages in some areas, normally near the ontario/quebec border, and in military bases, but that's pretty much as far as that goes.canadian and french canadian i mean
quebec946
The only thing you'll notice if you take a trip through Quebec, is that their road signs don't always have english on them. In other parts of Canada they have both.
But you also don't really need to go and learn French to go to Quebec. People still speak English.
some people are racist, some are not, just like anywhere else. I've never met/heard of any white supremacists or the like, and we don't have any westboro-esque groups that I know of, so no matter what you'll generally be accepted and nobody will make any racist comments to you.XilePrincess
Well, we're moving to Canada. Toronto, Ontario BTW. My other relatives said that Canada is a Multi-Cultural Society. I'm A Filipino and i'm mostly worried of Racism NerubianWeaverYou have nothing to worry about. Toronto is one of, if not the most multicultural cities in the world.
Nope, racism no longer exists in Canada. We abolished it when we realized we're all the same: maple syrup loving, chilly, polite do-gooders. socked_feetIt's not abolished... I can easily stick a swastika on my forehead. It has to do with freedom of speech or something of the sort. I have seen Neo-Nazi's in downtown Ottawa. They walk around without a care in the world.

I'm A Filipino and i'm mostly worried of Racism NerubianWeaverToronto is incredibly "multi-cultural". By that, I mean culturally segregated depending where you go. Most groups of people have their own little neighbourhoods where they live in/move into and rarely leave aside from work, although some more than others. Still though, you should be fine because Toronto has so much racial variety that you don't need to worry about racism.

I'm A Filipino and i'm mostly worried of Racism NerubianWeaverYou've got nothing to worry about, bigger cities have next to none racism. And there's tons of Filipinos in Canada, the only place I really see any racism is small towns and such where the people aren't used to seeing 'minorities'
Don't worry. Canada isn't racist. Canada is the greatest place in the world to live.
Try some real maple syrup when you get here. :P
Hell no man its Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. You cant have racism in a place like that. :PIs there much racism in Canada other than the other countries?

In Vancouver, white people are already a minority. :P
Quite a lot actually... and it doesn't usually come from the white majority, but more often the minorities, especially blacks. And the French, but that isn't racism, more like nationalism.
Nope. I live around Vancouver, have never seen racist actions displayed in public although my dad used to live in Edmonton and he claims that southern Alberta is demographically a part of the Midwest American bible belt, where you'll have your occasional tolerant groups. If you're going to Toronto I think that you should be fine, as a Jew I never ever worry about being assaulted or even verbally harrased in public even if I'm wearing my mogen david or a yamulke on holy days.
Lol, the closest thing we get to hardcore xenophobia and racism is the conflicts between favorite hockey teams.

We have a large Filipino community in Toronto. We have a large everything community in Toronto. One trip on the subway will reveal all. You will see and hear every nationality. And you will not feel threatened or any personal security concerns.
There are always a few morons, but Toronto is one of the most culturally diverse and safe large cities on the planet. There are very few neighbourhoods where people feel unsafe. Jane and Finch after sunset is the most notorious and is the hub of gang activity. Yes it exists, but it is very localised and compared to most large cities it is very minimal.
The murder rate in Toronto is 1.7 per 100,000 compared to the US average of 5.5 per 100,000 and compared to most large US cities averaging over 7.0 per 100,000.

Where I live in Canada (one of the major cities) it exists. I mean you don't see it everywhere you go, but you'll get a taste of it every now and then. Unfortunately it exists everywhere, but it's milder in some areas compared to others.
Overall maybe, but it still exists. I've noticed especially in working class areas that there's a fair amount of animosity towards natives, with ideas like they're always drunk, are on welfare, don't do any work etc. I don't want to say all working class people believe this, but it's a pretty pervasive sentiment. There is less racism in Canada than America in my experience.

Don't worry, Toronto is really multicultural. You go on the subway, you will hear two mexican girls speaking spanish, you get off the subway and Chinese girls are working in Tim Hortons. You won't have a problem up here. If anyone is racist they are looked down upon. So it is a very multicultural city. It is such a better city than where I live, (an hour south of Toronto.) The Cn Tower, The hockey hall of fame, the skyscrapers, the subways, the streetcars, the royal ontario museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Rogers Centre, all the sports team, and Algonquin park is a couple of hours away and it has wolves and moose and bears and all the wildlife. Toronto is an amazing City. You will love it there. And actually, people who say Canadians are nicer, I don't think that some people up here are that much nicer, Im a nice Canadian though. :) We have our fair share of criminals, crazy people and stupid people. And the American vision that Canada is "boring" is completely wrong.
