Argh, I'm so ticked off right now.
Have any of you experienced racism in the work force?
I've just experienced it today and was thoroughly insulted.
I've been out of a job for a few months to focus more on my studies. Sadly, my mice have gotten cancer and I've had to take up a job to support their treatment.
Being a small town, job opportunities are low unless I travel out and even then, I'd be losing around %30 of my income because of the travel fees. So you can understand my happiness when I noticed a job opportunity looking for "Authentic Native American to Star in Play".
Being an Asian with 1/6 Native American blood, I knew that this was my one chance to get garanteed employment, so off I went.
Oh how that went well. The moment I stepped onstage I was given confused looks. I wasn't really affected by them, typical showbiz intimidation, right? I mustered up some courage and read the lines on the script. I even raised my bow and arrow combo that my son bought from Best Buy (which had feathers glued into it from the pigeons that storm my backyard to increase the realism) with each emotion filled sentence. I knew I had his in the bag, none of the other suckers even brought in a bow and arrow. Then it happened.
The lady actually had the guts, no, the ignorance to stop me mid sentence and say, "Umm, sir, sorry to interupt you but we're looking for Native Americans. You're Asian."
Oh good how that made me angry. I think I argued them for about 30 minutes before losing my cool and throwing the bow straight at one of their faces. If that didn't prove my Native American blood, nothing would. I think it was the rudness in her comment that got to me.
I was suprisingly dragged out and not given the job. Why? Because of my race.
Disgusting. And yes, before you guys suggest, I am pursuing legal action for this atrocity.
