It doesn't really matter, but it is a double standard. 

As a long time Fantastic Four fan I would personally find it a little odd not to see Johnny Storm as a blonde-haired punk, but generally I don't have a problem as long as they make his sister black as well and don't do a silly adoption thing so that he becomes the token black of the film...which kinda looks like where they might be headed. But right now they're still in the casting phase so I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. 

I thought Michael Clark Duncan as kingpin was the only good thing about daredevil which was a giant piece of shit otherwise.  Was there this outrage over him playing kingpin?  ( I legitimately do not remember, I think that was before all the racists figured out how to get the internet though).

EDIT: Also I think it is a little bit racist that they picked out of all of them, for johnny storm to be the black guy, why not Reed Richards?

This was actually a cracked article I really didn't care for.

People have a right to be mad if they are going to take these well-established characters and make a drastic change like that. I really think it is just silly to go around making unecessary changes like that.

I also would appluad their ambition.

But I do understand that it is disappointing to see a character be represented by someone totally different from what they were in the original.

I would hate to see a white american shinji in evangelion though I am not really racist.

To be fair the character has always been white.

If Jack Bauer in the next season of 24 was black without any explanation, that would be a bit weird. and it would be the same with any black character suddenly becoming white.

But they have said it is a reboot which means they can pretty much change what they like so they will just have to accept it.

People who are fans of comics and superheroes tend to be obsessive with every little detail about a character and its backstory though so that is why they are reacting that way. I wouldn't say they are being racist.

I think you would find that type of fan would be upset over any major changes in the characters stories and origins.

I don't know why people care so much, fictional characters are just that fictional. Characters can be re-imagined, re-packaged in any way the author see fit. This isn't about a documentary or a movie based on someone's life. Fans need to understand that the only thing they are entitle to is to decide if they want to watch the movie or not.

Whereas this movie, other than a few subtle hints about a characters past, will probably just be about the story at hand in the present and the Fantastic Four name. Which is probably the reason, there is just no explanation for the change and that annoys them.

IF you want to call it "The Fantastic Four", then make it as true to lore as possible

If you want to do it your own way, then call it something else and say "based on the comic book The Fantastic Four"

I think directors and movie studios have a duty to, when directly translating from the written form to the audio and visual form, stay as true as can be.

While possible, it seems like a bit of a stretch.  And when your film already involves superpowers and villains and lots of eyecandy and stuff, you don't need to toss in some uncommon family dynamics as well,

"olive-skinned" usually refers to very tan Mediterraneans, like Greeks or Sicilians.  iirc the olive skinned folks were the agriculture district, so they were outside a lot, and thus very tan.

If they just change the skin color, then we are going to have a black character who acts just like some white suburban guy which I assure you people will be mad about (and also kind of makes the race change pointless). If they change his personality to make him seem more "black", then they are screwing up the characters personality which is also a big deal and will piss off another group of people.

This just seems like a silly, uneccessary change that does nothing for the story but changes and complicates the lore, this is why people get mad.Remember, they are adapting a WELL established story here, not starting their own series,

Cracked works a lot better for me when they're being clever and joking around, not when they're being so preachy.

Fine have captain america played by a japanese man, ye while you at at it, make spiderman into a four year old girl. The point is if you going do a movie based of something at least have the actors look abit like the characters they are acting.

It's like in the Odd Thomas movie that's in the works, they have this random white actress cast as Stormy the main characters GF yet in the book there is a HUGE emphasis on Stormy having this really beautiful EGYPTIAN appearance with the darker skin and jet black hair. It is just a dumb change that is pointless and shows a betrayal to the source material (which even though this is a reboot, the source material still needs to be respected to a certain degree).

2) Never said that didn't happen or that I really cared, but there most certainly ARE people out there who chastise that sort of thing. God Wayne Bradey gets made fun of (or at least used too) all the time for "acting white". I do beleive that was the whole reasoning behind that AMAZING Chapelle Show sketch with Wayne Bradey.

Yeah I almost wonder if they changed the characters race just to stir up controversy and get free publicity. We shall see though. If they end up making it mean something to the story then it's all good.

Really though, the comic industry has had a REALLY BAD history in regards to racism and how non-white characters are portrayed...

I did think they did a good job with Blade though. Freakin LOVED the first 2 movies back in the day.
